Smoke Signals September 1990 Page 2 POW WOW(Cont .) things went great with few exceptions." Cleanup Crew Boss Mary Trevino was just as pleased. "Things went exceptionally well. We got alot of compli ments from visitors and vendors that the grounds looked very good throughout the Pow-Wow." Trevino said her crew worked steadily. "The crew was always busy picking up. We helped keep an eye out for people who were drinking and reported them to the police. We were complimented by the Polk County Authorities for our help. The crew did a fantastic job." Pow Wow Committee Chairman Merle Leno was very happy with this year's celebration. "Everything went very well. Especially given the fact that this was our biggest Pow Wow to date. The parking attendants did a good job. We had a new flow of traffic that went one way through the grounds and that worked out well. The new traffic flow suggested by parking coordinator Linda Olsen." 'A' W .... Xs'"-' ' ". - ) i h Linda Olsen Leno was also pleased with the vendors, the clean up crew and the maintenance crew. "The vendors area was handled by Ken Schmid this year and it want much better than last year. The clean up crew had only six workers and they were kept busy from Friday through Sunday. Along with the maintenance crew they were the last people to leave Sunday. The maintenance crew did a steady job. They had to bring the bleachers from MacMinnville and set them up two days before the Pow Wow. They did a good job of setting up the lights and microphones too." Mark Cook and Penny DcLoe handled the kitchen duties. "They had maybe a total of 20 workers and they served close to 2,500 people on Saturday," Leno said. "We had very few problems this year and I would just like to thank everybody who helped make this year's celebration the best one yet." ' Overall, it can be said that this Pow-Wow, the 6th annual, was the best event yet staged by the Confeder ated Tribes of Grand Ronde. It was visited by more people, had more vendors and made more money than . any Pow-Wow yet. Thanks to all of you who made this event such a tremendous success and here is to many more such successes in the future. 7 - MjA-WT. mm, , &s V The new 1990 Junior Miss Grand Ronde Tara Leno is helped with her sash by 1989 Junior Miss Grand Rondc Molly Rimer. 1989 Senior Miss Grand Ronde Jolcne Poole watches as Tara shows her excitment to the crowd. if x S. n miiiimiiii MiMlttiiii i Royalty Court judges Kaihryn Harrison, a Grand Ronde Tribal Council member, and Wilma Crow. 111 I , Tessie Williams honored the people of Grand Ronde by serving as a Royalty Court judge at the Pageant.
