FmHA Makes Loans to
Minority Farmers
Portland, OR. Minorities with farm experience and -training
may want to inquire at any one of the FmHA's
19 County Offices about a Farm Ownership loan under
a program designed to reach out to "socially disadvan
taged groups" in Oregon, Donald D. Thompson, FmHA
State Director said recently.
Mandated by the Agricultural Credit Act of 1987, the
program is in it's third year of operation. Under the
program, FmHA encourages eligible minority farmers
to apply for a Farm Ownership loan for the purchase of
farm land. Applicants who have farm - related experi
ence and training, but arc unable to obtain their needed
credit elsewhere, should contact their nearest FmHA
County Office.
FmHA defines socially disadvantaged population
groups as Hispanics, Native Americans, Blacks, Asians
and Pacific Islanders.
"Eligible applicants can acquire a loan to purchase a
farm in two different ways. An applicant can find
suitable farm property and then come to us to finance it.
FmHA also has farm property available for sale in many
counties, and can provide financing for it's purchase. In
either case, interested parties should come to see us
about how to apply," Thompson said.
Interested applicants should contact their nearest
FmHA County Office for more information. These
offices are located in Albany, Baker, Coquille, Dallas,
Eugene, Hillsboro, Klamath Falls, La Grand, Madras,
McMinnville, Medford, Ontario, Oregon City, Pendle
ton, Redmond, Salem, St. Helens and The Dalles.

Sometimes I feel like a lawnmower, just wait
ing for someone or something to cross my path
so I can chew it up and spit it out.
But that's just when I'm angry.
Sometimes I feel like a spring chick just
hatched, so cheerful, just like the bright color
yellow. Just seeing the world for the very first
time my way:
On other times I feel like a raindrop just
waiting to fall, that's when I'm depressed.
Sometimes I feel like dropping a water balloon
on someone's head, thinking nothing can go
wrong.
By Jennifer Leno, Grade 5
One day at my school, Green Acres, I was in my poetry
class and the teacher had assigned us to write about our
emotions, such as anger, cheerfulness and depression.
I never thought my principal would choose my poem to
turn in to the Lebanon Express Newspaper, but she did!
P.S. The principal still reads my poem over the intercom
quite often, because it might influence kids to express
themselves more.

Enrollment Report
Dear Fellow Tribal Members and Friends,
The enrollment office has been mailing a questionnaire
to tribal members who are 18 years and over. The
information that is returned is entered into the data base
and used for statistical purposes. I have been mailing
applications to households whose children are not yet
enrolled. The return has resulted in 80 new enrollee's.
Our membership now totals 2646. Congratulations our
new members!
The questionnaire has enabled me to make over 1100
updates to my clients files. I cannot stress the impor
tance of having current information for program
statistics. The following clients have had their mail
returned to this office. Please call or write so I may
have your current address.
