Council members Wilma Butler and Kathryn Harrison witness Chairman Mark Mercier as he prepares to sign
the Tribes' historic non-smoking resolution. The Tribe participated in the Great American Smokeout by banning
the use of tobacco in all Tribal facilities. The Tribe is committed to providing workers with a healthy workplace.
CHAIRMAN SIGNS NEW ANTI-SMOKING RESOLUTION!
On November 15th, 1989, the Tribal Council unani
mously adopted a resolution declaring all Tribal Offices
and facilities as NON SMOKING areas. The Council's
message is clear. They are committed to maintaining
healthy environments for both our Tribal employees and
enrolled members, who utilize our health clinic, and any
other facilities.
Definctly, the non smoking sentiment is gaining a lot of
momentum throughout the American public. With so
many Federal, State, and other public facilities declaring
their offices as Non-Smoking, the Council felt it neces
sary to promote health in any way possible.
We realize this new policy may not be popular with
people who smoke, but the motion to adopt this resolu
tion was made by a smoker. With the major Airlines
now restricting smoking on flights within the continental
U.S., most restaurants declaring non smoking com
pletely, we are entering into a new era.
Here is the resolution in it's entirety.
