' . ; 1 " Princess Jolene Poole, the daughter of Anabelle and . Bruce Poole and the grand-daughter of Ted Houck and Frances Porter is one of the two princesses running for Miss Grand Ronde. Jolene has a wide variety of interests and hobbies that range from roller skating and swimming to "four wheelin'" and helping her dad work on cars. . ... Jolene will be a sophomore at McKay High School this fall. Last year at McKay, Jolene was fortunate enough to be chosen for the football team, considering the fact that only a few girls were picked to play and she hopes she will be chosen again this fall. Jolene says, "The reason I decided to run for Miss Grand Ronde was because I thought that it would be -nice to go to Pow-Wows and represent my tribe," and "if I do become Miss Grand Ronde, I will try my best to make my tribe happy and proud and I will also be very fjf hanov and nroud mvxelf ." . , . The Princesses for Junior Miss Grand Ronde are Tara Leno, Molly Rimer and E'Lisha Lane who have also been very active in various Pow-Wows and parades. TARA LENO Tara Leno, the daughter of Tom and Sheila Leno and grand-daughter of Maxine Leno is one of the three princesses running for Junior Miss Grand Ronde. Tara will be attending the second grade at Willamina Grade School this fall. She enjoys reading, coloring, skating and most of all fishing with her dad. Tara has been a very active girl in the Fish and Wildlife Department at the office in Grand Ronde. She has learned to crab, clam, and tie fly's for fishing. She will also be working with the Fish and Wildlife Program this summer with her dad, Tom Leno. Tara has a very wide range of interests. She loves to play Nintendo and learn about computers in her spare time. She also likes to fancy dance and ride on the floats during parades which is one reason Tara says she , wanted to run for Jr. Miss. Tara says, " If I become Jr. Miss Grand Ronde I will go to all the Pow-Wows and parades and do my very best!" Stephanie Mercier is running for Miss Grand Rondtff , STEPHANIE MERCIER ,' Princess Stephanie Mercier, the daughter of Michelle' i Wcbber and Dennis Mercier is also running fpr Miss Grand Ronde. Her grand-parents are Martha and ' Hubert Mercier - who she hopes arc very proud of her, Stephanie will be a.Freshmari this fall at North Salem High School where she hopes to make a lot of new ' friends. She really enjoys playing softball, swimming, ' learning to drive and in the future she would like to ' : ' learn to fancy dance. 3'-;; " '';-' '. ' " . When asked why she decjded to run for Miss Grand : : Ronde, she says, "I decided to run so that J could learn: more about what it means to be a Native American and I also wanted to learn how to dance." If she becomes Miss Grand Ronde, Stephanie said she would "like to ' teach children how to dance "so that they can be just as . involved at Pow-Wows as everyone else."
