Health Committee member Larry Brandon is running for
a spot on the Council for the first time this year.
My dear Fellow Tribal Members: '..
.1 appreciate this opportunity to address you. For those
who do not know me, I am Larry Brandon, I have been
nominated to run in the upcoming tribal council election
and I waut to share my thoughts and ideas concerning
our tribal development. ' : , ' ,
I am aware of the problems and concerns that face the
tribe for I was born and raised in Grand Ronde. My
mother and grandparents also reside here and I am also
the father of two sons, Jonathan and Jesse. I am well -acquainted
with our tribal members of the area and look
forward to the time that I can meet all those who reside
outside the Grand Ronde area. Not only have I lived in

know our primary economic project is the timber ; .
market and believe I can be of assistance to our tribe in
this area."."
I am currently operating two small businesses, one is
making cultural jewerly and the otheris woodworking. I
enjoy working with my hands, creating things. I believe
it is good to work, keep active, and be involved with the
Tribe. I have been attending the tribal council meetings
to keep abreast of the many issues and decisions that
our tribal council is dealing with on a weekly basis.
Other activities that I am involved with are the Tribal
Health Committee of which I am the secretary, and as a
, volunteer for the Tribal Alcohol and Drug youth ;
program,' and I am also involved with Willamina Junior
High School as the wrestling coach. I maintain that our .
tribal youth need special attention t,hat willh, elp them
reach their potential for they arc our future.' i.;.' i ,. '
I look forward to talking with you and I am willing to
share my thoughts, ideas and understanding with you.
You can be sure that I view the entire tribal membership
as equally important, regardless of where their reside. . j
Those who know mc, know that I suffered great injury in
a car accident a few years back, lam grateful that I can ; i
even walk. However, this Injury has enabled. me to ;.. ',; '
become involved with the Tribe.' , I b.egan with the '
Health Committee because of my own condition, I want
to see our members receive good health care. My
interest does not stop with meeting the. health needs of
the tribe but as stated earlier I also know the timber ' ! : '
industry and I am very interested jn 0M,r future.: In order
,to be truly self-sufficient we must have the rijsayrces to .
finance our needs and interestes, I wiW wpfk tovyaxds. i

Maude Hudson, John Houck and Frances Houck ,v ;
Porter. I've been, married to Pete Grout for 35 years. 1
. We have five children and nine grandchildren. ;. 1
I have been on the Tribal Council for the past two 1 v
years and I am seeking re-election. In the past two years
Tye.been on the Cemetary Committee an the Commit--
tee that set up the burial plan.' I have gone to several
conferences arid took courses on, Tribal Court Drug and
Alcohol and others. For the past several years I've been
in charge of the Kitchen for pur Pow-Wow's until Mark ,
Cook came on board to help me out. .I've also been ,; ( t .
active on the Pow-Wow Committee for the last five
years. ; ',
If re-elected, these are the things that I want to see
happen for all our people and would work hard to make
them a reality. I want to see housing for our elders,
programs that will make life easier for our elders, and
jobs and housing so our people can come home. Also I .'
want to see a Community Center so we have our own
meeting place for gatherings and our Pow-Wow's.
I will work for all our people not just a chosen few. I .
don' have a College degree but I do use good common
sense. ' ' ..,.; -
I am willing to talk with anyone and if I don't know the
answer I will go to someone who can help me to find '
one.,- . '
I think at this point in time it is critical that we keep the .
council that is familiar with the planning we have for '
land purchase and setting up the Economic Develop- ' .
ment Committee and other such things that is in the 1
process of getting off the ground at this time. '
I ftiqk its important that we pick people who have
. been interested in the tribe and who came to our v
monthly meetings on a regular basis. ;.
Thank-You,.
