YAMHILL COUNTY
HEAD START PROGRAM
Yamhill County Head Start s a federally funded pre
school program for children and their families.
To be eligible for Head Start, families must meet federal
income guidelines. These guidelines are based on the
family's gross income (total income before taxes are
taken out).
'Children are eligible from age 4 up to the time they
enter the school system.
10 of Head Start enrollment must be handicapped
children (physical, hearing, vision, emotional develop
mental delays).
10 of the enrollment may have income in excess of
the specified guideline.
HEAD START ISNT JUST FOR CHILDREN, IT
INCLUDES PARENTS TOO!
Parents volunteer in the classroom, participate in once-a-month
parent meetings and take advantage of many
speakers, groups and workshops, organized especially
for them. It requires a little of your time, but the
rewards are worthwhile.
WHAT ARE THE SERVICES THAT HEAD START
WILL PROVIDE?
Head Start is designed to provide each child and family
with the following services at little or no cost to the
family.
1. Educational experiences.
2. Developmental testing & follow-up.
3. Medical & Dental screening and follow-up.
4. Hearing, vision & speech screening & follow-up.
5. Identification of special needs of handicapped
children.
6. Social & Mental Health Services, including crisis
intervention, information and referral to community
resources.
7. Field Trips.
8. Nutrition education.
9. Transportation, (limited area).
The benefits of the Child Care Food Program are
available to all children without regard to race, color,
age, handicap, sex or national origin.

Children must be 4 years old by September 1, 1989.
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS:
Each child must have a dental and physical exam within
one (1) year prior to enrollment. Your child must also
have all required immunizations prior to enrollment.
Handicapped children are accepted irregardlcss if they
are at least 4 years old.
Appointments can be set up by calling Dean Azulc at
879-5211. There are only 3 openings left.

IMMUNIZATIONS AND SCHOOL PHYSICALS
Summer is here, but all too soon it will be time for
school to start. Keep in mind that Oregon State Law
provides that any child entering a certified day care
facility, pre-school, Kindergarten, or first grade or any
time thereafter, and children transferring to an Oregon
school from out of the state (pre-school through 12th
grade) may face expulsion from school if they are not
current andor up to date with their immunizations.
Immunizations are available by appointment, Monday
through Friday, at the Grand Ronde Tribal Health
Office.
School physicals can be scheduled during the regular
Wednesday clinic hours 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Be sure
to call 879-5211 or 1-800-422-0232 for an appointment.
Immunizations are also available at the County Health
Department. Following are addressed and telephone
