EDUCATION UPDATE
At the close of Winter Term 1989, the Tribal Educa
tion Program assisted a total of 23 students, in the
Higher Education Program; 16 in the Employment
Assistance - Adult Vocational Training and 13 Adult
Education.
Of the total 39 students in both the AVT and Higher -Education
Programs, 28 successfully completed the
Term with a 2.00 GPA or better. Out of the 28, a total
of 10 earned a 3.00 GPA, with two students earning
Honor Roll distinction.
The projected outlook for Fall Term 1989 enrollment
indicates the Tribe will have approximately 30 students
enrolled in Higher Education, with 20 students partici
pating in Adult Vocational Training Programs.

a "B" average or better in their studies.

become a High School Graduate, and have not decided
about the possibility of continuing your education,
please act now.
Deadline for accepting Tribal Higher Education
applications for FALL TERM 1989 enrollment is JULY
311989. This means vou must have vour completed
application into this office by that date! This includes
your Financial Aid Form filing.

CONGRATULATIONS
Students who successfully completed their Employ
ment Assistance Adult Vocational Training Programs
were Joannie West, Marcel Allen, Daniel Hamm and
Laura Navarette.. .,rr,r ..,-. , . . .
Ms. Joannie West, completed her two- year program
from Linn Benton Community College and earned an
Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. While
attending LBCC; Joannie earned an accumulative Grade
Point Average of 3.35. During the two years, Joannie
achieved Honor Roll distinction four times!
Mr. Marcel Allen, attended West Coast Training and
completed the HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
Program. He successfully earned a "certificate of
Completion and passed the required licenses exams. He
was placed in immediate employment upon completion
of his training.
Mr. Daniel Ham, participated in the Commercial
Training Services Transport Operator Program. At the
of end of April, Daniel earned his Diploma, and passed
all exams for licensing.
Ms. Laura Navarette, attended Mt. Hood Community
College and received a certificate of Completion in the
Office Occupation's Program I and II. Ms. Navarette
received immediate placement while she was completing
her program.
Let's all offer our congratulations to these students for
their hard work!
COLLEGE VISITATIONS
It is important to visit a college campus before commit
ting yourself to going there. Many factors in deciding
your choice include the size of the campus, the programs
the College offers and housing arrangements. If you are
in High School and thinking of attending College next
year but aren't quite sure of which to choose, call
Camille Van Vleet at 879-5211 to inquire about visiting
in-State Colleges.
NO SUMMER TERM
FUNDS AVAILABLE
There has been a number of Higher Education
students who have inquired about the possibility of ! '
attending school during Summer Term 1989. Unfortu
nately, because of the increase in current enrollment and
pending applications for Fall Term '89, we will not be
able to provide funds for Summer Term Educational
costs.
If you are still wishing to attend Summer Term, you
should contact the Financial Aid Office and apply for
Campus Based Aid. Many of the Colleges can offer a
guaranteed Student Loan to cover term tuition and fees.
If you haven't made up your mind about school or are
considering on waiting until July or August you may be
too late. The Tribal Education Program is realizing an
increase in enrollment. Applicants who submit there
completed applications early, prior to July 31, 1989, will
receive first consideration for assistance.
File your FA.F. today, you can obtain the FA.F. form
for 1989-90, from your local high school or Community
College or University. Contact the College or
University's Financial Aid Office for this form.
If you are needing a Tribal Education application
packet, call at 879-5211. Be specific, identify the type of
schooling you are seeking (2 year, 4 year Program);
Vocational Training or Higher Education. Have a
school or schools identified that you are interested in
attending.
