STUDENTS EXCEL IN WRESTLING AND ACADEMICS Shorn and Dustin Leno work hard to earn trip to Nationals. Having started wrestling when they were just four years old, you might think that Shonn and Dustin Leno, the sons of Reyn and Liz Leno .would be getting a little tired of it. But, in fact just the opposite is true, the word "tired" isn't in their vocabulary. Taking part in a very busy schedule is only part of what it takes and Shonn (13) and Dustin (11) have what it takes, just ask their wrestling coach Larry Brandon. "I've enjoyed working with Shonn and Dustin very much. They are both hard workers and that's what it takes," said Brandon. Brandon points out that despite the fact that the boys work out everyday (including 3 days a week up in Portland at the Peninsula Club) they have maintained good grades in school. Shonn's GPA is currently 3.60 and Dustin's is 3.30. "They are very outstanding in their school work for . keeping such a busy schedule," said Brandon. "Shonn already has his future planned out and he sees wrestling as an avenue to get him places in life." Brandon believes that both Shonn and Dustin are good role models for kids who are their own age because of their dedication and desire to succeed. "They both are great examples that just because you are from a small town doesn't mean that you have to settle for small things," explained Brandon. "You just don't see that kind of dedication very often in kids that age." Shonn will be a freshman at Willamina High School next year and he hopes to attend Oregon State Univer sity in Corvatlis, Oregon after High School. Shonn said he hopes to take up forestry at OSU and he would also like to continue his wrestling career in college as well. According to Brandon, when Shonn begins school at Willamina he will attempt to win a state wrestling title in each of his four years in high school. Brandon said that feat has been accomplished only four times in the history of Oregon High School wrestling. Dustin, who will be entering the seventh grade at Willamina Middle School, recently qualified for the upcoming Western Nationals to be held in Gillette, Wyoming, June 13th - 17th. He qualified by placing 6th in the State wrestling tournament in the freestyle category. Shonn also qualified for the Western Nationals by placing 1st in the Greco-Roman category and 2nd in the freestyle category at the State Tournament. Both Shonn and Dustin will leave for the National Tournament on June 11th accompanied by their father Reyn and their coach Larry Brandon. Good Luck Guys, do your best!!
