A current Tribal Council
task is the finalization of
the Master Plan for the
Tribe. The Master Plan
is a study designed to look
at the feasibility of lands
available in the Grand Ronde Community for commu
nity development, administration offices, housing and
economic development.
Cooper's Consultants of Portland have completed a
draft Master Plan. The next step of the Council will be
to negotiate with lands owners within the community,
for the purchase of suitable lands to meet tribal needs.
On the matter of construction, many different factors
must be considered. One item is availability of infra
structure services such as water, sewer facilities, electri
cal power capacity, etc. Review of the infrastructure
services will help determine future growth potentials of
the available lands.
Since our present tribal office building is already
inadequate for our growing program operations, a new
administrative office is certainly a necessity. We will
keep the general membership posted on the Master Plan
activities as they progress.
The Tribal Council is also establishing an annual
budgeting process for the Tribe. The establishment of
an annual budget is necessary to plan effective use for
our limited revenues and to help establish program
priorities, tribal governmental operations and economic
development.
Sometime during this summer, the Tribe will print a
special edition of "Smoke Signals" that covers the
specific procedures of the budgeting process. The
Council will also hold two special meetings to receive
input from the general membership on the annual
budgeting process, prior to finalization of an operating
budget.
. The Tribal Council wishes to acknowledge the work of
the Tribe's Cemetery Committee for the preparation of
the Tribal Cemetery for the Memorial Day weekend.
They were kept busy planting flowers, repairing broken
water lines, and mowing the grass. The cemetery was in
"ship shape" condition for Memorial Day.
We are also thankful to Jim Butler and Steve Grant for
their fine assistance in building a bathroom facility at the
cemetery building (good-bye unflushables!).
