USDA FOOD DISTRIBUTION DATES The USDA Food Distribution for Salem is April 4, 5, 6, 1989, from 8:00 to 5:30 Tuesday and Wednesday. The Siletz Distribution is April 19, 20, 21st, 1989. USDA Recipe: Meat, Potato, and Cheese Scallop 2 Tbsps. Margarine or butter 2Tbsps.flour 14 Tsp. salt 1 cup milk 34 cp. cut up cheese 1 medium onion 4 medium size potatoes 212 cps. cut up Luncheon meat Melt Margarine in pan. Stir in flour pd salt. Add milk slowly, stirring until smooth. Cook and stir about 3 minutes until thickened. Add cheese. Stir over low heat until cheese melts. Slice onion and potatoes thinly. Put meat, onion and potatoes in greased baking pan. Pour sauce over top. Cover. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Remove cover and bake about 15 minutes longer until mixture is browned on top and potatoes are cooked!. Makes 6 servings, about 1 cup each. . GOAL $2,800.00 i r I T $2,800' $2,600 $2,500 4 ' '4 1 I I WW'", vSrt ,,fA I ffl&wmk STUDENTS NEAR GOAL Five tribal students, fund raising money for a trip to Florida have raised $2600.00 of the $2,800 total they need. They are expected to raise the remaining $200.00 within the week. The students are Tommy McKnight, Leanna McKnight, Angie Leno, Trevor Aaron and Cory Menely, all attend Willamina High School. The students are scheduled to go to Florida, March 27 - 30th, 1989. The will visit the Kennedy Space Center, EPOT center at Disney World and Sea World. If all goes according to schedule, the students may be able to witness the first voyage of the space shuttle "Atlantis" which is scheduled to lift-off from Kennedy Space Center on April 28th. The students have been involved in a variety of fund raising activities including bake sales, bingo games at the General Council meetings and hosted Easter activities with an Easter Egg hunt, spaghetti feed and a drawing for Easter baskets. The students have also received numerous donations from the community. VETERAN'S AFFAIRS OFFERS HOMES FOR SALE The Department of Veteran's Affairs is responsible for selling properties acquired through foreclosure, deed or repossession. These "state-owned" properties are offered for sale on a sealed-bid basis for a period of 15 days. If a property is not sold on sealed-bid, it will immediately be available for reasonable offers. The Veteran's Department provides periodic lists of state-owned properties that are available for sale. If you are interested in receiving this information, please contact your local department of Veteran's Affairs to be placed on their mailing list. Properties are also advertised in local newspapers. Please contact the field office listed in the ad for further information. You do not have to be a veteran to buy a property. The requirements to buy property from the Veteran's Affairs are: - You must be of legal age; - You must be able to make the monthly payments based on the established guidelines; You do not have to be a resident of Oregon and you do not have to occupy the property as a principle resident. Oregon veterans have the right to claim bid preference on these properties. To be an eligible Oregon veteran you must meet the following requirements: You must have served honorably on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States for not less than 210 consecutive days, unless you were released earlier because of service-connected disability. Some of this service must have been between September 15, 1940 and December 31, 1976. You must have been honorably discharged or have been honorably separated to a reserve. You must have been an Oregon resident either at the time of your entry into Service or for a total of at least five years since your separation from active duty. - You must be an Oregon resident at the time of application. You may be asked to provide proof of your Oregon residency. - If you are the unremarried surviving spouse of an Armed Forces member who died while on active duty, or if you are the spouse of an Armed Forces member ' who is listed as either missing in action or a prisoner of war. You must also be and Oregon Resident.
