V mm FEBRUARY 1989 THE CONFEDERATED TRIBES OF THE GRAND RONDE COMMUNITY I OF OREGON COUNCIL ESTABLISHES TRIBAL BURIAL FUND On January 2, 1989, the Tribal Council established a Tribal Burial Fund which covers tribal members and their immediate families. In establishing the fund, the Council adopted the following guidelines: 1) There is a limitation of benefit of $3,000 per funeral. Statements from the provider will be submitted to the . . tribal administrator. The Tribal Council designated Merle Holmes, council member, to administer the fund. The Burial Fund will be paid for through tribal timber revenues. BEGIN FUND-RAISING EFFORT FOR TRI P TO FLORIDA Five tribal members attending Willamina High School '.' have begun fund raising activities to participate in a four day, three night trip to Florida to visit the Kennedy Space Center, EPCOT Center and Sea World. The five students, Trevor Aaxron, Angela Leno, Leanna McKnight, Tommy McKnight and.Cory.Meneley met with the Tribal Council on January 18, 1988 to request support for their project. Also attending the meeting . . were two Willamina High School science teachers, Michelle Howard and Julie Peters. , The students need to raise $575.00 each to pay for round-trip costs to visit Florida in late April, The five students are among about twenty expected to go. Stu dents in any grade, and who are taking a science class are eligible to participate. The students are looking for sponsors and donations. The group has raised about $200 to date and has several activities planned, including a Bingo Game at the General Council meeting on February 5th, and a Bake Sale on February 10th in Willamina at the Pacific Securty Bank, beginning at 3:30 p.m. A challenge grant to individuals and businesses has been initiated. Interested persons can meet or beat a donation of $25.00 to help the students. The Tribal Council designated the Social Services Program to assist the students in fund raising efforts. The students must raise a total of $2,875 for all five students to participate in the trip. If you are interested in helping the students, contact the Social Services Department at 879-5211.
