We are in the process of establishing the 1989 royalty court for our Tribe's annual pow wow, to be held August 18, 19 and 20, 1989. The pageant will be held on August 18th at the Grand Ronde Elementary School. All junior and senior participants will be judged on a speech (which consists of information on their families, regalia, and their knowledge of our Tribes), their participation in ALL scheduled events, their regalia, and on raffle sales. Also, they may be judged on their ability to dance, whether it be traditional or fancy. We are hoping to have a consistent and much improved pageant for 1989. We are looking towards having more participants this year. For any interested girls, please be aware of the follow ing: Junior Court is open to girls at least 7 and not over 13 by August 18, 1989. Senior Court is open to girls at least 14 and not over 19 by August 18, 1989. You must be fully dedicated from the deadline date through August 18, 1989. There are many events in which you will be required to attend. If a participant misses more than three (3) events that are scheduled, this will disqualify them from the pageant. Scheduled events include pow wows, parades, and various fund raisers special appearances, and assistance with different parts of the pow wow, whether it be setting or cleaning up, or helping organize a function, . etc. The deadline date for entering will be April 28, 1989. Your entry formapplication must be in the tribal office by 5:00 p.m. on April 28, 1989 to be eligible to partici pate. Last year, we had to decline five (5) girls for waiting past the publicized deadline date. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. Beginning April 28, 1989 to August 18, participants will be required to attend the scheduled functions of the royalty court. Thank you, Royalty Committee r l Erica Mercier and Michael Childers 1988 ROYALTY 1988 MISS GRAND RONDE is Michael Childers, and JR. MISS GRAND RONDE is Erica Mercier. These two girls worked long and hard to become representa tives for the Tribe. They will be involved in several pow wows this winter at various locations throughout the state. They have took the responsibility of representing this Tribe at these events and will represent us with pride and honor. Lets show them our support at these many activities! MICHAEL CHILDERS This year's pow wow was a great success, but yet, we still have to make sure that next year's is even better. Parades and other functions will soon be approaching, but all of the effort and hard work always pays off in the end. I am looking forward to working with everyone again and would like to take this time to encourage all those who would like to become a part of the 1989-90 Court. I am more than willing to help in any way I can or answer any questions if needed to help make next year's pow wow as good as the last. Sincerely, Michael Childers Miss Grand Ronde ERICA MERCIER I am very honored to have won Junior Miss Grand Ronde. I would like to thank everyone who brought raffle tickets from me, and I would like to thank all the judges and everyone who helped me with regalia. I was very proud to be able to represent the Tribe for the first time as Junior Miss Grand Ronde at the tree ceremony. I am looking forward to this coming year of events, and I will do my best to make the Tribe proud. Thank You, Erica Mercier Junior Miss Grand Ronde
