PROPOSED GRAND
HONOE INOIAN RESERVATION
he Senate Select
Committee on Indian
Affairs passed without
opposition, a bill that
would establish a 9,811
acre reservation for the
Confederated Tribes of
Grand Ronde.
The bill is similar to
H 4143 passed in the House earlier this summer.
The bill now goes to the Senate floor for a vote.
If successful on the floor of the Senate, the bill then
goes to the President's desk for his signature to
become law.
The proposed reservation lands are located in
Yamhill county and the timbered lands would
primarily be used to generate income for the tribe
to provide economic development, and supplement
existing health, education and social service
programs operated by the Tribe.
Grand Ronde Tribal elders recently visited
the Horner Museum at Oregon State University
to view cultural and historical displays; and
spent an afternoon visiting Siletz elders who
came for a lunch of Med salmon, sandwiches
and other good things to eat At left, front to
