HOUSING
The Indian Health Service Construction Section does
provide water supply and waste disposal systems to
tribal members in the service area whose homes meet
certain criteria.
If you have purchased a new home or mobile home and
it is in standard (decent, safe, sanitary - general con
struction meets local codes, heating system in good
condition, properly installed plumbing system, safe and
properly functioning electrical system of adequate size)
condition, you may qualify for facilities.
If your home has been upgraded or rehabilitated
through the use of any federal program or any of your
own resources and meets the standard criteria, you may
qualify for facilities.
There may also be some people who are exceptions to
these rules who may qualify for the program.
If you are in need of any of these services, contact the
tribal housing program to obtain an application.

In the last issue of the Smoke Signals, we listed Ms.
Linda Olson's Fall term grades at a 3.75 GPA. We
apologize to Ms. Olson, but her actual grade point
average for Fall Term was a perfect 4:00. How's that for
straight A!!! Congratulations Linda, and keep up the
good work.
Congratulations to Marion Henry who recently received
a $500 Oregon Law
Enforcement Scholarship thru the Oregon Sheriffs
Association.
Marion has had an average grade point average of 3.61 .
for the last four terms and has carried an average of 16
credit hours

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
TITLE: Secretary, Legislative & Judicial Services
SALARY: $13,000 to $15,000 annually, depending on
experience
RESPONSIBLE TO: General Manager
DESCRIPTION: This position will provide secretarial
support and clerk services for the Tribal Court and
Tribal Council. This will include support services to the
tribal attorney, consultants and tribal judge during the
initial stages of development of the Tribal Court System.
Additionally, this position will receive extensive training
in tribal court systems, court clerk responsibilities and
legal proceedings.
This position will provide secretarial and recording
services for the Tribal Council during Tribal Council
meetings and will maintain governmental records and
files. Duties for this position will include routine typing,
filing, record maintenance, making travel arrangements,
setting up and recording minutes of meetings, clerk
services for the judicial branch and all other assigned
tasks. Will require overnight travel to training sessions
and some evening and weekend work.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of High School Di
ploma or equivalent with preference for applicants with
one or more years of college level secretarial training.
Minimum of two years of recent progressive secretarial
experience, and demonstrated ability to work with
Council, committees and community. Must type a
minimum of 50 wpm. Prefer shorthand, briefhand and
dictation experience.
Knowledge of privacy act and demonstrated back
ground b use of confidential information. Demon
strated ability to communicate well with the public and
other personnel Must have use of personal vehicle and
have a valid Oregon Driver's License.
Indian Preference applies.

ELDERS TO VIST OSU
In late or mid April, Social Services will be taking
interested elders to Oregon State University to look at a
display of old Indian photographs. Anyone interested in
attending this field trip, can contact Joann McClary at
879-5211.
YOUTH MOVIE NIGHT
Social Services will be starting a "Free Movie Night"
very soon. There will be three different age groups -grade
school, middle school and high school. Movies
will be selected according to appropriate age level.
The movies will be held on Friday nights. More infor
mation will be in the April issue of the newsletter.
