it i t COMMUNITY SUMMER YOUTH JOBS The Grand Ronde Tribe will have five youth working in clerical and mainte nance positions this summer. Four positions are through the Mid-Willam-mette Valley Jobs Council and one position is through the Salem Siletz Office. Information on the two clerical and two maintenance positions through the Mid-Willammettee Valley Jobs Council are available through high school counselors. The positions run from June 15 to August 15 and pay minimum wage. The maintenance positions will in volve grounds keeping, painting and maintaining the cemetery grounds. The clerical positions will involve answering phones, taking messages, typing, filing, copying and collat ing, and other office duties. The positions are with various tribal programs . The clerical position sponsored by the Siletz Job Training Program runs from July 1 through August 29, 1987. The wage is $3.35 per hour, and the person will work 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. Eligibility Criteria: Must be a de scendant of an Indian tribal group or Alaskan Native. Must be between age 14 and 21. Must be able to meet in come eligibility. Priority will be given to those applicants who will be returning to school in the Fall. If under the age of 18, parent of guard ian must sign for permission to par ticipate in the program. Terry Russell, Siletz JTPA counselor, will be in the Depot office Thursday, June 16, 1987 from 10:00 until 2:30, to do intakes for the clerical posi tion. BASKETBALL CLINIC First District Congressman Les AuCoin is inviting teenage boys and girls interested in learning the fine art of give-and go, the outlet pass, re bounding and free-throw shooting to a free basketball clinic in July at Linfield College. AuCoin said the one-day clinic will feature Portland Trailblazer Coach Rick Adelman, and Linfield Men's coach Tim Miller. Two Trailblazer players are also tentatively sched uled to attend. This, the third annual AuCoinTrail blazer clinic will be held on Satur day, July 18th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Riley Gym on the Linfield College Campus. Boys and girls in the 9th, 10th and 11th grades are eligible to sign up. There will be a limit of 70 players for the clinic, with reservations accepted on a first-come, first served basis. Interested youths should contact Bernie Bottomly or Rebecca Bragg in AuCoin 's Portland office at 221-2901 or toll-free 1-800-422-4003 to sign up. "There'll be drills to help the kids improve their individual and team play skills, and they'll have the chance to talk basketball with an NBA coach and players," AuCoin said. The first district lawmaker has had a keen interest in basketball since his high-school days, when he was a starting forward at Redmond High School and was named to the 1960 high school all-star basketball team. & h . 1 . . JhsX: Carmen Haug is resigning after 2 years as Tribal Council Secretary. Carmen plans to go to school and study Public Administration and Business. CEMETERY DECORATIONS If you would like to save the decora tions placed on the graves for Memo rial day, please pick them up by June 13, 1987. If they are not picked up, the tribal cemetery keepers will pick them up and save them to put on un derrated graves next year. The decorations are picked up so the cemetery grounds can be mowed and kept up.
