EDUCATION UPDATE
Concluding the month of February 1987, the Edu
cation Program assisted a total of 34 students.
We currently have 10 students in Higher Educat
ion Programs; 10 students in Employment Assist
ance - AVT Programs and 10 students participat
ing in Adult Education classes. Additionally,
during the months of January and February, the
program provided information and application
packets to 24 inquiries regarding educational
services for all three areas. Financial Aid
workshops were provided during Jan. 9th and
Jan. 30th. The Jan. 9th activities were held at
the Tribe's Depot Office and drew 8 participants.
The Jan. 30th workshop was held at Chemeketa
Community College and several of our enrolled
students participated in the Financial Aid
application session, met with recruiters and
counselors from the University of Oregon, West
ern Oregon State University, Oregon State Uni
versity, Chemeketa and Oregon Health Services
Center. Look for more workshops to be scheduled
in the near future.
REMINDER:
To all ne"w and returning students, remember if
you plan on attending school next Fall Term
1987, you should be filing your FINANCIAL AID
FORM (FAF) for 1987-88 right now! All tribal
grants for both Higher Education and Adult Vo
cational Training are based on the Financial
Aid Form application, which establishes your
financial need. Without this analysis, no
grants can be provided. You can pick up fin
ancial aid applications at the following places:
-college or university you'll be attending
-at your counseling center (high school
seniors)
-Tribal Office (call 879-5253)
Please file your applications as soon as pos
sible, this will make you eligible for Pell,
SEOG, State Need Grants, College Work Study,
and NDSL & GSL loans.

MATERIALS AVAILABLE
The Tribal Education Program has materials
available to hand out. These materials
cover admission requirements, costs for
schooling, programs and courses of study
for all Oregon community colleges, colleges
& universities. There are also packets cover
ing career choices and what schools offer.
If you would like these materials sent to you
please call Dean Azule, at 879-5253. Lastly,
there are a number of catalogs available for
review. If you are still undecided as to
which school you may wish to attend, you
might like to review courses and programs
offered. Call to make an appointment.
HELP SESSIONS FOR PARENTS
Look for upcoming Family Math classes to
be scheduled in the near future. Members of
the Title IV Parent Committee will be con
ducting Family Math classes in the upcoming
months to help parents work with their child
ren in the area of mathematics and math
attitudes. The classes are fun and are tar
geted for parents who have little or no math
skills. When dates, times and locations are
set, an informational flyer will be sent out.
