The proposal addresses their concerns about log export, management of timber lands and the possibility of the Tribe competing for timber on public lands. The Tribe has offered a Ten year ban on these issues. We hope to meet again with timber company representatives to further discuss this proposal. On January 21, 1987, Council members, Merle Leno, Kathryn Harrison and I went to Washington D.C. Accompanying us was Ken Smith, who is working with the Tribal Council on the final stages of the Reservation Plan. The purpose of the D.C. trip was to address any possible concerns the Oregon Congressional Delegation may have about the Reservation Plan. We still have much to do. Besides meeting with timber companies, we will be meeting with representatives of the three affected counties (Tillamook, Yamhill and Polk) to address their concerns. It is unknown when legislation may be intro duced (which is required to establish a 1 - nd base), but the Tribal Council working on getting the meetings going, .mI w; will keep you posted on the Tribe's proj;i ess .
