    ENROLLMENT
Dear Fellow Tribal Members and Friends :
The Enrollment Office has been busier than usual. The reason being that
many clients are checking on their enrollment status. I have mentioned
before that I have many incomplete files on hand. If you have not received
an enrollment number, you probably are not enrolled. All it takes to
check on your enrollment status is a phone call or letter.
Many files are incomplete because of unacceptable or the absence of birth
records on file. Our tribe's enrollment is based on descendency. Birth
records are used to prove descendency from a member of the Grand Ronde
Tribes. Many files contain the state issued birth cards. Although these
cards are certified by the state, they are unacceptable for enrollment
purposes because they fail to list the names of the parents. Some records
have a handwritten addition or correction on them. Any handwriting on a
record is-considered. an alteration.. Altered documents are unacceptable..
I must request a different document if it is altered.
Some birth records that are acceptable include: the state issued certified
full birth certificates, baptismal certificates, court orders of paternity,
adoption decree's, and hospital records. The hospital records are acceptable
only if the front and back are completed by the hospital. If the writing or
typing on the back of the hospital records differs from the front, that is a
clue that the record was completed at a later date. I will request a different
document if this is the case.
I may periodically be absent from the office. I am currently serving jury
duty through November. If you are from out of town, please call ahead to
confirm if I am in for the day. I do not know from week to week which days
I am called to serve. Thank-you to our members who keep their mailing address
current for our office! My hours are from 81OO am to 5:00 pm, Monday through
Friday. Our office is closed from noon to 1:00 pm.
Sincerely,
Margo George
Enrollment Clerk
