Education continued STUDENTS BE AWARE Oregon colleges, universities and community colleges are being forced to "verify" student applications regarding Financial Aid for 1986-87, During 1985-86, colleges were asked to verify 30 of the total Financial Aid applicants, however in 1986-87, colleges are now asked to "verify" 70 of the total applications for financial aid. Many colleges are taking the attitude, if they have to verify 70, they might as well go ahead and verify 100. What verification means is that if you have filed as an "INDEPENDENT" student for the 1986-87 school year and you're under 23 years of age, you may be asked to re-confirm your independent status. Also, if you filed as a "DEPENDENT" you may also have to re-confirm information you included on your student financial aid application. Some items which colleges are asking additional information for include: - information regarding yourself - your marital status - your income tax filing (or parents) for 1985 - tax exemptions & claimings for 1985 - residency & familyhousehold size The verification process may delay response of award mady be colleges regarding financial aid. If you need information, contact the college's (you'll be attending) " .icial aid office or call the tribal education office.
