THE CONFEDERATED TRIBES OF THE CRAND RONDE COMMUNITY OF OREGON NOTES FROM THE CHAIRMAN The Tribal Council has been busy pushing for a Reservation Plan Contract extension, the contract which expired on June 30th, 1986. To date, the Council hopes to get the final paperwork processed in the near future. With this contract extension, the Tribal Council will be busy in the latter part of this year, making presentations to various clubs and organizations throughout the local community. The Council has been actively seeking a timber consultant to help the Council in it's negotiations with representatives from local timber companies, who are voicing their concerns about the export of logs, and management of timber lands. In regard to the Hunting and Fishing Agreement with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, the O.D.F.W. was scheduled to vote whether or not to approve the agreement on the 22nd of August, 1986. For reasons unknown, the O.D.F.W. Commissioners elected to table the agreement until October 9, 1986. The Council will continue to monitor the Commission's actions on this agreement. Also, the Tribal Council is in the process of finishing the Tribe's Comprehensive Plan. The purpose of a Comprehensive Plan is to set up a specific framework of long range planning for the future. There will be copies of the Comprehensive Plan available at the Cemetary and Depot offices for your review. In future General Council meetings we will discuss the major parts of the Comprehensive Plan which are as follows. The first part will be a Historical Overview which provides a pre-history to present status of the tribe. A section covers the tribal government structure from the General Council, Tribal Council, Committees and Administration. The next section consists of: Housing and Facilities; which will highlight land acquisi tion, land use planning, housing development, and facility development. The major section is under Human Resources. This section of the Comprehensive Plan will highlight on Education, Health, Social Services, Enrollment, Culture, and Recreation. The final section of the Comprehensive Plan covers economic development, which will cover looking at possible business ventures. As time goes on, the Comprehensive Plan will be subject to changes, if any major . ones are required.
