4 Housing (continued) Program Activities We began accepting applications from tribal members in May of 1985 and ranking applications for priority at that time. In 1983 we were able to provide direct services to 9 tribal members, 5 in housing rehabilitation. 4 in down payment grants. Of the 5 applicants we were able to serve in 1985 under Category B our average expenditure per household was $16,500 to bring a home to standard. All of the down payment grants offered to the 4 applicants in 1983 were $5,000 each. Therefore, our total program expenditures to tribal members from the housing program in both rehabilitation work and new home purchases was $102,500 for fiscal year 1985. In fiscal year 1986 (our current year) we were able to prioritize considerably more funds into the housing program. Currently we have commitments made to 22 different tribal members and families, 2 - Category A, 5 - Category B, 15 - Category C. Our total projected expenditures of funds in the form of direct grants to tribal members and families in fiscal year 1986 will be approximately $164,000. Thus when we close out fiscal year 1986 in September we will have provided $266,500 in direct grants in 17 months of operation. If you have not already, and wish to apply for housing assistance, you can pick up an application at either the Depot or Cemetery office or call 879-5253 and we will mail one to you. Even though Category C down payment grants have been eliminated from the 1987 budget at this time, I would still encourage anyone interested to apply in the event that monies do become available. Additionally, we will continue to offer assistance in both of the rehabilitation categories. Enrollment Dear Fellow Tribal Members and Friends: The Tribal Council has approved an additional 35 applicants for Tribal Membership. Congratulations to all the new members! Our official membership now totals 1870. I have completed a six-county service area update. I know that many members living in the service area have not sent in their correct mailing address. I also noticed that many clients have not informed me of a name change. I need to now if you have changed your name for any reason. If I receive a verification request from any agency, and the client's name is different than what it is in my files, I cannot verify Tribal membership. Please keep me informed!
