Education (continued) A Reminder To be eligible for HIGHER EDUCATION 4 ADULT EDUCATION, you must be at least 14 blood degree, and an enrolled tribal member. To be eligible for Employment Assistance - Adult Vocational Training, you must be an enrolled tribal member of a federally recognized tribe (no 14 blood degree requirement) but must reside within the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde's 6 county service area (Multnomah, Washington, Yamhill, Marion Tillamook 4 Polk counties). If you need additional information, please call the office at 879-5253. Helpful Tips'for Enrolling In School 1. Have you decided on a possible field of study or career? Do you know which universities or Community Colleges offer a program you're interested in? 2. Have you taken a Placement Test? Are you ready to enter a program of study at the school you will be attending? Are there math, science or other requirements? Will you need to take some refresher math, reading, English or spelling classes? 3. Have you asked about admission deadlines and requirements at the school you wish to attend? Have you contacted the school to learn what steps you will need to take to get into school? Have you contacted a counselor, admissions staff or financial aid counselor at the school? 4. When do you need to register for classes? Will you be able to enter school during Fall Term 1986? Is there a registration deadline? Do you have to have any special certificates like a High School Diploma or GED? If you need information or wish to see what schools offer, contact the Education Specialist, Dean Azule at 879-5253. We have informational material and college catalogs from many of the universities and community colleges in Oregon. Last resort to gaining information or answers to your questions, is to call the school, community college, or university directly, they will be glad to provide you with information. Housing Improvement Program News & Information The housing program currently offers 3 types of support to tribal members. 1) Category A - Repair to a sub-standard unit which will remain sub-standard. Funding limitation in this category are not to exceed $2,500 per unit. 2) Category B - Repair to a sub-standard unit which will become standard with a funding limit of $20,000 per unit. 3) 'Category C - Down payment grants to tribal members in need of housing with a funding limit of 10 of the purchase price, plus the closing costs or $5,000 which ever is less.
