It was a two day conference. The conference is held about four tines a year to update Superintendents throughout the northwest. Xelsen Wilt, Siletz Superintendent his extended an invitation to the tribes in the agency to attend these conferences. This meeting revolved around timber management issues, water rights, Indian Acute Distress Donation Program (an agricultural feed program designed to assist Indian Ranchers feed their live stock), Bureau's involvement in Tribal Trade mission. Timber sales contracting, timber infestation control, property control problems. These meetings are informative and it provides an opportunity to find out what is going on in Indian country. Each tribe and agency is different, but many of the problems which occur are relevant to us. It is also a chance to watch our Bureaucrats at work. I had a chance to talk to the Area Director about the Housing problem we are facing. The Bureau has been directed to change their approach on housing funds. The Bureau is holding our funds up at the Washington D.C. level. Many tribes are faced with this problem. The Area Director agreed to assist us in resolving this very important problem with us.
