Additional notes
The higher education and housing programs (funded by the Bureau of Indian
Affairs) have received a great deal of Interest. In fact, the demand for
service has been greater than we have funds available. Both programs have
a waiting list. The housing director (Jim Willis) has prepared a proposal
and the Council has, by Resolution, approved a grant application to HUD
(Housing for Urban Development) for housing rehabilitation monies. These
funds are very competitive, but we are hopeful that the Grand Rondes will
be funded. The grant request exceeds $200,000. If we receive the grant,
Jim will negotiate the final award sometime in April or Nay. The grant
will allow us to more than double the grant funds for rehabilitation of
member' 8 homes.
If you are interested in applying for home rehabilitation, or obtaining
assistance to purchasing a home, contact Jim Willis at the Cemetary tribal
office, 879-5253.
One last note
Most of our program operators; housing, education, health etc. are in and
out of the office. Sometimes it seems they must be away from their work
stations for more than a day or two. If you find it difficult to drop by
or to pay for calls; call us collect. We will see that your call is
returned. Be sure to ask for the person or program when you call collect.
In time we will probably move toward an 800 number system.
Education
Those Interested in applying for the Higher Education or Adult Vocational
Training (AVT) Programs for Fall Term 1986 should complete and mall in
their Financial Aid Applications by February 1st or no later than March.
1st 1986. Financial Aid Is awarded on a "first come first serve" basis by
each institution. Financial applications can be obtained at the college
or Institution you plan to attend.
Tribal education funds are currently committed for fiscal year 1986, with
a Tribal priority waiting list in progress for Fall Term 1986. If you
