COW CREEK HEARING IN D.C.
A new bill that would allocate the $1.5 million judgement Claim, directly to the
Cow Creek Tribe was introduced to Congress by Rep. Jim Weaver. It was this reason
that a hearing was set before the House Interior Committee on Dec. 10, 1985.
Our organization did not have the money to send a representative to the hearing,
but written testimony has been sent to Congressman Udall and Rep. Ron Wyden, by
Dean Richardson, on our behalf.
Information taken from an article written in the Sunday Oregonian 121585 states
that "the Reagan Administration opposes the plan. Some Cow Creek descendants
(members of the Cow Creek Tribe) told the committee that they thought the fair
thing to do would be to divide the $1.5 million among all descendants. It is
with this truth that the Cow Creek Descendants Organization holds strong, and will
continue to do so.
Sincerely,
Carmen Haug, Cow Creek Organization
