CHRISTMAS PARTY
The annual Christmas party was a success and attended by 91 people. The hall took on a
holiday atmosphere with the decorations provided by Roger Harrison. Guests included some
students from the Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Oregon. They performed some dancing,
and invited the attending children to join in a round dance.
After the dancing it was gift giving time. Each year it has been a tradition to give a
gift to the oldest attending, the youngest attending, and the family who traveled the
farthest to attend. Our winning Elders were John Petite and Velma Mercier. The youngest
attending was Andrea Childers. The family who traveled the farthest to attend was John
and Pam Darcy, and their sons, Joshua, Jason, and John, of Eugene, Oregon. The Darcy's
also received a gift for attending their first tribal event.
A special door prize was given to Misty Carl of McMinnville, and to Peter Grout of the
city of Tillamook.
Others who received a gift included: Dolores McGee, Blanche Lillard, Frank Harrison,
Margo George, Angle Childers, Ivanetta Cook, Roger Harrison, Jayne Mercier, and Clayton
Bedortha. Special "helpers", Doug Mercier and Monty Herron were given a thank-you gift.
A potluck dinner followed, with a visit from Santa Claus. The little children were fasci
nated by our North Pole visitor. After Santa heard the children's Christmas wishes, he
proceeded to pass out goodie bags to the Elders. No one was forgotten. The party closed
with one of the largest clean-up crews ever. A most sincere Thank-you" to all who helped.
A special thanks to Dolores McGee, Maynard Baker, and Pete Petite for donations for the
Christmas party. Also, many thanks to all who participated at the rummage sale, which
the funds earned there, were used for the Christmas party.
