ENROLLMENT
Dear Friends and Fellow Tribal Members;
I've just completed my first four weeks as your Tribes' Enrollment Clerk and
it's been quite an experience. I'm learning something new everyday and I seem to be
getting confused alot less frequently. I'm trying to do my best to serve my people,
but I need your help to do the best job that I can. There are so many persons who
have applied for Tribal enrollment, but their applications are incomplete. I am in
the process of trying to contact each applicant who needs more documentation to finish
their applications, but there are so many without correct address's, that this is
difficult to do. If you have moved at all since applying for enrollment, please send
your correct address to me in care of this office. If you wish an application for
enrollment, be prepared to furnish a birth record with the applicants natural parents
names on it. A hospital record is acceptable if the mother's maiden name and the
fathers name is on it. Baptismal certificates usually carry the same information and
are acceptable if they do so. A copy of a certified birth certificate from the Vital
Records Unit usually contains the needed information. I have Vital records order forms
available on request. The plastic or paper "Birth Cards" are unacceptable. If none
of the above birth records are available, an affidavit signed before a Notary Public
swearing to parantage is acceptable. If the birth record that you have is blurred or
faded, please don't write on it. Any handwriting, corrections or additions on the
documents will be considered altered and unacceptable. The applications must be signed
and dated. I will send enrollment applications on request,
I know that many people are in the process of trying to prove descendency from the
Cow Creek Tribe. I wish I could help out in this area, but I don't know the Cow Creek
enrollment procedure and I don't have access to the Cow Creek documentation. Proving
your Cow Creek riescendaricy has nothing to do with being an enrolled member of the
Grand Ronde Tribe. Please refer any questions you may have on the Cow Creek descendency
to Carmen Haug.
Here is a list of returned mail. If you know someone whose name appears here, tell them
to send roe a new address. I'd really appreciate it.
