Tribal representatives have discussed an approach with several representatives of
Oregon's congressional delegation and with the Association of 0 C Counties. The
Tribal Council will continue to work through these representatives and with the BLM
and the Counties to ensure coordinated effort that will result in a viable Reservation
Plan.
Consultants to the Grand Ronde Tribe are currently evaluating timber lands in Polk,
Yamhill, and Tillamook Counties in terms of viable management and administrative
costs. The results of this analysis will be compared to the previously completed
tribal needs assessment in order to determine the amount of land necessary for a
reservation. The results of this analysis will be presented to the Tribe at the
monthly meeting in May.
Dr. Barbara Lane, historical consultant to the Grand Ronde Tribe, presented the
historical findings of her research of governmental records at the monthly General
Council Meeting. Records and copies of the historical review will soon be available
at Tribal Headquarters.
Management Report
The tribe has filled the two vacancies. First, Jim Willis accepted the position of
Housing Director. I believe Mr. Willis is exceptionally qualified and capable of
rendering a quality service to the membership.
The Social Planner position has been filled by Diana Stogsdill (tribal member) who
will be handling the Higher Education and Adult Vocational Training programs.
I am pleased to have both individuals join our staff. Both of these people will
be housed in the executive offices at the cemetary facility. Phone j 879-5253.
