JOM
(Johnson O'Malley)
JOM is a contracted program whose purpose is to insure that
Indian children receive the educational opportunities, that would
not otherwise be offered; by providing financial assistance to
meet the special and unique educational needs of Indian children.
Funds provide supplemental programs and do not take the place of
State or local school district funds. Some of the service provided
include:
STUDENT ASSISTANCE
1) Academic one on one tutoring and counseling, to help improve
reading and math skills.
2) Leadership study groups in Tribal government.
3) Career awareness activities
A) Cultural awareness experiences.
5) Support liaison and referral between home and school.
6) Early childhood education programs.
PARENTAL ASSISTANCE
1) Parental training in JOM Parent Committee role and responsibilities
and other activities relative to Indian Education issues.
2) Limited funding to assist student needs in supplemental
activities, (art, band, P.E., special classes, etc.)
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR JOI-T SERVICES
Indian students from age 3 years though grade 12, who are
one fourth or more degree of Indian blood and from a federally
recognized tribe.
The tribe is in the process of soliciting information for a
JOM program. If you are one fourth or more blood degree of Grand
Ronde or another recognized tribe and reside within the six county
service area and wish to participate or want more information on
the program, please contact the tribal office at 879-5211.
NEW TRIBAL BOOKKEEPER
Ron George a Tribal Member, has been hired as the new Bookkeeper.
Ron is a Vietnam Veteran with almost 12 years of military service. Ron
has a strong interest in tribal operations and is looking forward to
his new position, he will be working in the Depot Office.
