    INTERIM TRIBAL COUNCIL:
The Interim Tribal Council has held and attended not only their regularly
scheduled meetings, which are held on Monday evenings at 6:00 P.M. (excluding
the monday following the General meeting, unless called otherwise) but also
several special called meetings. Most of these meetings pertaining to the
Tribal Constitution, Reservation Plan, and Enrollment. The Bureau of Indian
Affairs (BIA) and t lie Native American Program Oregon Legal Services (NAPOLS)
have been working closely with the staff and Tribal Council on these very
important Tribal matters.
The following are conferences and workshops that the staff and Council
members have attended in April and into May:
April 26th: Council members, Kathryn Harrison, Merle Leno, and Candy
Robertson attended the "Presidents Commission on Indian Reservations Economies"
workshop held in Spokane, Washington.
April 30th, May 1st and 2nd: Council members, Kathryn Harrison, Frank
Harrison, Candy Robertson, attended the "Affiliated Tribes of Northwest
Indians" conference held in Tacoma, Washington.
May 3rd: Council members, Kathryn Harrison, Dean Mercier, Candy Robertson,
Henry Petite; Staff members, Executive Director-Jim St. Martin, Tribal
Planner-Don Hudson; Tribal member, Merle Holmes and interested party, Pat
Gray, along with NAPOLS, attended the Commission on Indian Services meeting
in Salem, held in behalf of Grand Ronde.
May 2nd, 3rd and 4th: Council members, Russ Leno, Mark Mercier and Frank
Harrison made a tour of three Indian reservations, in order to compare these
Tribes' Constitution and By-Laws and to get a general idea of how other
reservations operate .
May 8th, 9th and 10th: Council member, Merle Leno and Staff persons,
Executive Director-Jim St. Martin, Tribal Planner-Don Hudson and Tribal
Accountant-Al Wilkinson, attended a workshop held in Portland for "Procedural
Guidelines", given by the BIA Portland Area Contracting Officer.
May 14th, 15th and 16th: Tribal Council Chairperson, Kathryn Harrison,
attended a workshop, given by BIA, for "Understanding Tribal Governments",
held in Warm Springs.
We would like to welcome Barb Mercier, and Teri Mercier to our staff in
the Tribal offices and Lynn (Bear) Robertson to our maintenance staff.
We would also like to Thank all of you that have attended the General meetings
and the special meetings that were called in order to establish our Tribal
Constitution. This has been a very big step for each and every one of us,
and have more to come, so, come on Tribal members, lets do our best to
contribute more input into our future meetings. Your tine and input are
very much appreciated.
