N.P.A.I.H.B. HOLDS FINANCIAL AIDS WORKSHOP On February 8, 1 984 , the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board sponsored a Financial Aids Workshop at Mt. Hood Community College in Portland, OR., rnd was well attended; local Grand Ronde Tribal members, traveling to thij event were: Carmen Haug, Title IV coordinator, Annabel le "Peachie" Hamm, and Kathryn Harrison, Community Organizer. The agenda included such prescntors as: Barbara Heitzmann and Carl Rawe, Financial Assistance Dept. of Mt. Hood Community College; Van Peters, Director Indian Education, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Portland Area Office; Darlene Marcel lay, Employment Development Specialist, Indian Health Service, Portland, OR. Jack Qulncy, Health Careers Counselors of NPAIHB was instrumental in scheduling the workshop and was also, on hand to assist in any way he could. The last part of the day was spent learning how to complete application forms for Financial Aids: 1984-85. A similar workshop Is scheduled to be held at Wl 1 la mina High School for the benefit of Interested Tribal members. Title l.Va. Indian Education On Jan. 5 a' new parent, committee was elected. The officers are : Chairperson: Jayne Mercier Vice Chairperson: Mike Larson Secratary: Linda Mercier Our Title lVa. Coordinator is Carmen Haug. As of today we have 24 members, includ ing 2 Teacher Representatives and 3 Student Representatives. With the help from the parent committee. Carmen has been preparing 'for next year's Grant, which we recieved Feb. 13,1984. We've also formed a volunteer committee to put together a resource file. Your help would be greatly appreciated in getting it started. The purpose of this Resource file i3to try and use our own people to teach our children about their heritage. If we do not get any responce from you, we will have to seek outside the community for these resources, which are very exspensive.
