MERLE HOLMES WRITE IN CANDIDATE FOR TRIBAL COUNCIL
ATTENTION TRIBAL VOTERS! Here are some of the requisites
for a Tribal Council Candidate; free to travel, attend many
Council meetings and other functions that demand Council
representation, public speaking ability, planning, management,
and decision making. Most of all you must be responsible.
I feel I meet all o these needs. I am 50 years old, am
a home and property owner in Salem, Oregon, a family man with
two sons, one a freshman in college and the other in the 8th
grade. My wife is employed as a druftsperson for an engineering
firm. My income is from a military retirement, therefore,
1 have ample free time. 1 have just been appointed to the
State Health Advisory Board by Governor Atiyeh. My terra is
2 years and we will meet at least quarterly. I see no conflict
of meeting times. If so, however, Tribal business must be
first priority.
I know many of the Grand Ronde Tribal members and you
know me, for I have been three times chairman of the Tribal
Council. I am asking for your write in votes. Thank you.

I was born in Mc Minnville, Oregon, 35 years ago in which my home has always been
Grand Ronde. I attended St. Michael's School for 8 years, and Willamina Union High
School for 4 years. After graduating i I joined the Army in 1967, after boot camp
I took training for the Military Police in which I served as an M.P., until I was
discharged in 1969, as a Sargent E.5. After coming home I worked for local logging
companies until deciding to go into business for myself in 1978 with a highway truck
and from there to a log truck and eventually to a small logging business. I'm also an
active member of Title IV Parent Committee.
I'm very intrested in seeing the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde succeed to
it's fullest. Working together as one is the only way it can be done. Also to ensure
that our elders are entitled to be taken care of and entitled to see their needs are
met, also that our children are entitled to a good education and health benfits.
I would be very Proud to serve on the Interim Council and be part of bringing this
all together. " WE ARE A PROUD PEOPLE "
