Through the "Smoke Signals" we will do our best to keep you
informed of our progress in the development of procedures for the
health, education and other entitlements that our tribal members
are now eligible to receive. There will be many rules and regula
tions that we will have to observe. If you have needs that can
not wait, call our office and talk with Kathryn Harrison our Com
munity Organizer.
Have all of you sent in your enrollment papers? Now, they are
the most important item since the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA)
are going to require documentation by birth certificates and your
family ancestry back to grandparents at Jest. If you haven't done
your enrollment form yet do it now and send it in. If you need
an enrollment form, contact Cheryl Carl at our tribal office.
Tribal Council, after much detailed discussion, have placed a.
hold on the Grand Ronde Railroad Depot building to be used as our
tribal office space.
Final decision on the annual Christmas Party will be made at
the December meeting.
Applications are now being accepted for the fifth annual "1984
Summer Enrichment Program" sponsored by the Northwest Portland Area
Indian Health Board's Health Careers Opportunity Program. Twenty
students will be selected to participate from Eastern Washington,
Idaho, and Oregon in the six-week program scheduled to commence on
June 16 and end on July 27, 1984. Contact the tribal office if
you are interested in attending this Program and have an interest
in one of the following areas: medicine, osteopathy, dentistry,
optometry, nursing, podiatry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, health
planning, health administration or an allied health occupation.
University of California, Berkeley has notified our tribal office
that they are actively recruiting for Fall 1984 enrollment of gradu
ate students in their Master"s degree programs. Requirements are
that all applicants should have a bachelor's degree from college,
fairly good grades, have taken Graduate Record Examination. Further
information on this can be secured by contacting the program's
office in Berkeley. Students who are interested in finding out more
