. i A J FROM MISS GRAND RONDE cont. . . . I represented our tribe at Pi-Ume-Sha Days June 22 and 23rd at the Warm Springs Indian Reservation. Most of the dancing was competion. I danced in . the Grand , Entry and in -some inter-tribal dances. "Miss Warm. Springs made sure I "had a place to stay and welcomed us. Our tribe was introduced and welcomed to the reservation. Miss Pl-Ume-Sha was crowned during the festivities. The girls that are interested in being on the Princess court next year should be thinking about getting some training in now with the existing court so' you .will be eligible for Grand Ronde's court next year. The court responsibility involves a lot of work and dedication to the tribe. Being on the court does not consist of just making parade and Fow Wow appearances . You have to be willing to learn the Indian way and traditions. You have to know where and when to sit down, and learn different dances,' learn to identify the different songs. To be a representative of Grand Ronde, you need to be well versed on our endeavors You will talk to people at Pow Wows and other events (conferences meetings,' etc. ) . Making presentations to other Court members at Pow Wows and other special occasions is also a-part of being a representative of Grand Ronde. Most of the time you will not be aware of what's expected of you until you arc asked to speak or make a presentation. I encourage all of you to attend our General meetings and breakfasts held the first Sunday of each month. Representing The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde is interesting and fun. Everywhere live made an appearance, I !ve learned something to pass on to the forthcoming girls that will represent our people in the future. When you sign up for the court keep in mind that there is a lot of ' travel involved and this takes much time and preparation. We hope to hear from some of our tribal member's before too long to get some training in for next year's court. See you at the next General meeting, come and have breakfast with us!
