FROM THE COUNCIL . . . ": : ''..v June and July were busy months for the Council. The court represented The Confederated Tribes of , Grand, Ronde at Delta Park in Portland and the Warm ;v : Springs Pi-Ume-Sha Days festivities. A meeting was held June 27 at the tribal office with attorneys Thomasine ; Ross and Don Wharton of Oregon Legal Services. Thomasine and Don will be 1 " handling the legal portion of the Restoration of The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. Thomasine will . prepare a draft of. the bill that will be ' , . presented to Congress for approval. ...This bill will cover the type of needs we want included in our tribal restoration. A copy of the bill will be mailed to all members we have addresses for. A special General meeting y will be called to address comments or changes desired by the members of The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde before final approval of the bill i ; is given. We need to examine the contents of the bill very carefully .before submitting it to Congress. This is the first major step towards . our restoration and will entail. a ,lot of hard work by, the Council and . , -tribal members. Your continued support and assistance in helping, to., . make decisions will be essential to our reaching our ultimate goal. , Tribal Council - : ; ' ? 1 ... " . ; : f ....; s - , - - -: - - . - ' '' t " , , FROM MISS GRAND RONDE .... The past months have also been busy ones for me. May 23, 1980 I attended a Pow Wow in Eugene, Oregon held at HcArthur Court. It was a big success. I was introduced and Grand Ronde' s goal of Restoration was mentioned by the M.C., Bob Tom of the Siletz tribe. ,. The next event the court attended was in Lebanon, Oregon June 5,f, and 7th. Here the court participated in the Strawberry Festival. Oueen Jackie Provost, Princess Jackie Colton and Princess Margie Lafferty appeared in the Grand Parade Saturday and danced Saturday after the parade at River Park at the Indian Encampment site. The Tribal-Museum Tipi was set up in the park. I would like to extend a special "thank you" to Princess' Jackie Colton and Margie Lafferty for the special , efforts made during this event. I know it took time and a lot of your energy. Also thank you dancers and drummers that traveled to Lebanon to help make the Indian Encampment and dances a successful event. The community enjoyed the Tribal Museum Tipi and dances. Pictures were taken by the local paper which also did. a follow ' up story on the Encampment at River Park. The next appearance was June 16, 17th in Portland, Oregon. The Tribal Museum Tipi was set up in Delta Park. Princess Margie Lafferty and myself appeared here. Saturday there wasn't alot of dancing because of the rain (there was a lot of volcano ash too). The sun came out Sunday and the dancing continued. Our tribe was introduced and ?liss Indian Northwest was crowned during the Rose Festival."; We met a lot of Indian people from all over the United States at this event.
