E Coosh EEWA: The way it is Letters to the editor Food gatherers The Culture and Heritage Committee invites all tradi- tional food gatherers to din- ner and a meeting this Wednesday, March 20 at the Agency Longhouse. Dinner is at 5 p.m., and the meeting at 6. The meeting is a chance to share stories and tradi- tional ways, how the tribes took care of themselves for and the sacred foods for many years. Please attend and bring the teachings you have. Culture and Heritage. Color Run ‘24 Warm Springs Recreation presents the Color Run ’24 starting at 3:30 p.m. on Mon- day, March 25 at the Com- munity Wellness Center. Recreation will host a walk around the walking path at the wellness center. After every- one walks one lap around, Recreation will begin the Cer- emony of Colors. Honor Elders Day in May Hello, I would like to in- vite you for your time, ideas, volunteer help and any do- nations to help develop a spe- cial event that is dedicated to all our elders. The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Seniors program has set the date for the 2024 Honor Elder Day on Friday, May 10. This is the time we cel- ebrate our tribal member el- ders, our local community elders, as well as the elders who travel to our event, help- ing celebrate and enjoy the day together. Coming up we will hold planning meetings for the day, and will let you know the days and times. The Honor Elders Day theme this will be, Peanuts— Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, Woodstock, Sally, Pep- p e r m i n t Pa t t y, S c h r o e d e r, Marcie, Pig Pen, Franklin, Shermy, Rerun, Violet, Patty, Frieda and more. This is a part of the era that is always fun to remem- ber. The Elder Day cannot happen without wonderful people like you who are a part of the event every year. This is for stu- dents of the Warm Springs Academy. The clinic will include dental screenings, sealant applications, fluoride and SDF application, and oral health education. For more information call 541-553- 2468. Spring Carnival The Springs Kids Carnival is coming up on soon. The carnival is hosted by Warm Springs Prevention, and will be the evening of Tuesday, March 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the gymnasium of the former gymnasium. The carnival is for the whole family, with games, prizes and tickets (one ticket per game, 15 tickets prize raffle. Livestock, horse clinics The Oregon State Univer- sity Warm Springs Extension office and partners are host- ing a brucellosis (bangs) cattle vaccination clinic on Tuesday, March 26. The clinic will be at the War m Springs Rodeo Grounds from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A USDA veterinar- ian will be on hand to admin- ister the brucellosis vaccine to heifers 4-12 months old. This is for livestock owners who are tribal members. The brucellosis vaccine will be $1.50 per dose; and a Ivomec cattle de-wormer dose will be $2. Head Start Graduation The Warm Springs Head Start and families are having a 2024 Graduation fundraiser from now through the spring. Head Start parents are funding-raising to cover costs of the June 2024 Head Start Graduation. A steel plate for an electrical upgrade is in place for the roadway access to the unleaded gas pumps. Note: Unleaded gas pump No. 2 is opera- tional; and diesel gas pump is also active. BAAD tourney The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indians, the Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center and Native Youth Rise Above are hosting the Thirty-Fourth Annual Bas- ketball Against Alcohol and Drugs—BAAD—tourna- ment this Friday through the following week, March 22- 29 at the Nixyáawii Commu- nity School and Umatllia tribes After School gyms. The tournament is held annually during spring break for youth to engage in alco- hol- and drug-free activities in a positive and healthy en- vironment Events start at 5 p.m. this Friday with a free kick-off dinner at Nixyáawii Commu- nity School, followed by a Rise Above program at 6 p.m. and a ceremony to honor BAAD dignitaries at 7. First place teams will re- ceive jackets, while second place teams will get hoodies. Third place teams will earn long sleeve shirts. Concessions will be sold daily, and a free barbecue will be held March 28. Ad- mission is $5 a day with $2 programs available.
