First-ever Tribal Youth Affinity Crew
A summer youth Warm Springs
Conservation Corps crew is recruit-
ing for crew team members. The
Central Oregon Youth Conserva-
tion Corps are seasonal jobs run in
partnership with the U.S. Forest Ser-
vice: The COYCC is hiring youth
for the Warm Springs crew who
are 16 to 18 years of age.
This will be eight weeks of natu-
ral resources conservation work for
the first ever Tribal Youth Affinity
Crew. The pay is $15 per hour for
total possible pay of $4,200 over
the summer. The work is from June
24 to August 15, Monday through
Thursday schedule for three-days
weekends every weekend, and the
Fourth of July off.
As an Indigenous Youth Crew
Corps member, the team members
will learn job skills by improving
public land, and keeping the com-
munities safer from wildfire. The
program is a training opportunity
for the next generation of conser-
vationists. There will be a College
Day at Central Oregon Community
College, and a Career Day hosted
by over a dozen Forest Service pro-
fessionals. The program is through
the Heart of Oregon Corps (see
page 3 for more).
Job opening: Lines For Life youth development coordinator
Lines For Life seeks to hire a
Warm Springs youth development
coordinator. This part-time posi-
tions has a salary range of $21.50
to $24 an hour. The person will be
in the office one to three times per
week, 20 hours per week with a vari-
able schedule that may include
weekend events.
The youth development coordi-
nator reports to the YouthLine Na-
tive program supervisor.
Lines for Life is a regional non-
profit organization that is dedicated
to preventing substance abuse and
suicide, offering help and hope to
individuals and communities while
promoting mental health for all. The
work addresses a spectrum of needs
that include intervention, preven-
tion, and advocacy.
When a crisis arises or support
is needed, Lines for Life is avail-
able 24 hours a day, seven days a
week, every day of the year to in-
tervene with personalized help.
The Warm Springs youth devel-
opment doordinator will help in the
supervision of youth peer interven-
tion specialist volunteers on a
YouthLine satellite team, a confiden-
tial teen-to-teen phone, text and
chat line to help youth deal with
bullying, depression, substance
abuse or any other issues that can
make teen years especially painful.
This position will work at Lines
for Life’s satellite center in Warm
Springs and at the Central Oregon
call center location in Bend. The
team also collaborates with the
Portland call center to ensure that
all contacts are answered with care,
compassion, and empathy, all while
staying within the scope of the
YouthLine program.
This Warm Springs Youth de-
velopment coordinator will also col-
laborate with the Central Oregon
YouthLine coordinator to engage
local youth throughout the reser-
vation, and surrounding Central
Oregon region in mental health re-
lated prevention outreach activities
and classroom education.
Some responsibilities of the po-
sition:
· Demonstrate the culture of
Lines for Life by modeling behav-
ior that supports the goals and phi-
losophies of Lines for Life.
· Supervise YouthLine peer in-
tervention specialist volunteers dur-
ing the Warm Springs satellite of-
fice hours of operation. Currently
the Bend Call Center is open 4 nights
per week between 2:30 pm – 8 pm
with a goal is to increase the num-
ber of nights per week in the fu-
ture. The Warm Springs satellite
team anticipates being open 1 night
per week.
· Support Warm Springs youth
volunteers in youth and work force
development activities through their
volunteer experience.
· Assist the Central Oregon As-
sistant YouthLine Director and
Portland YouthLine staff with train-
ing Warm Spring youth volunteers
with detailed attention to cultural
This position requires flexibility
in schedule to meet outreach needs
and requires some work on week-
ends. Travel is required throughout
the Central Oregon region for out-
reach plus, occasional meetings in
Portland.

Summer camp for students interested in health field
A summer camp is coming up
for Central Oregon students who
are entering their senior year of
high school, and who are inter-
ested in pursuing a career in
health care.
The multi-day camp will be July
14-18 in Bend, hosted by Cascade
East Area Health Education Cen-
ter Medstars. This is free of charge
other than a $25 deposit fee. Stu-
dents will:

Campus.
Learn about COCC’s health
care career programs with hands-
on activities.
Explore a university science lab;
and become BLS—Basic Life Sup-
port—certified. Explore advancing

Livestock, horse clinics coming up
The Oregon State University
Warm Springs Extension office
and partners are hosting a bru-
cellosis (bangs) cattle vaccination
clinic on Tuesday, March 26.
The clinic will be at the Warm
Springs Rodeo Grounds from
11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A USDA
veterinarian will be on hand to
administer the brucellosis vac-
cine to heifers 4-12 months old.
This is for livestock owners who
are tribal members. The brucello-
sis vaccine will be $1.50 per dose;
and a Ivomec cattle de-wormer
dose will be $2.
