    Career learning stipend with WSCAT
The Warm Springs Community
Action Team offers learning sti-
pends as part of its workforce de-
velopment and education program.
“This helps us maximize the
number of people we are capable
of assisting with learning, while
they’re being paid,” said Sara Dowty,
WSCAT technology workforce ana-
lyst, who is coordinating the pro-
gram. “I’m hoping many will be in-
terested in getting paid for learn-
ing.
The following are the simple re-
quirements to participate in the
learning-stipen program:
The person must be of working
age, 14 years or older. The candi-
date must also have an accessible
email; and have access to the
internet, computer including a
laptop; or a smart device for remote
learning.
The Community Action Team
has also been providing assistance
for interested residents in internet
access sign-ups. Earlier this month,
WSCAT partnered with T-Mobile
for home internet access sign-ups;
and as of last week had helped 16
individuals with T-Mobile inquiries.
“We are also planning an upcom-
ing AT&T event to help with phone
and internet,” Ms. Dowty said.
The current planned date for the
event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on
this Friday, February 23 at the Ac-
tion Team building.
“By having companies come
down and offer sign-ups for phones
and the internet, WSCAT is hoping
to bridge some barriers with con-
nectivity,” Sara said. “This makes
remote learning more of a possibil-
ity for families.”
How to get started
First, interestd individuals should
complete the workforce application.
For the link, send an email to Sara

And she will respond with an
email to sign up for Coursera. The
person can then create an account;
or if the person has a past account,
he or she will you will receive a link
to the old Coursera account.
The next step: Enroll in a pro-
fessional career certificate program.
The choices are from UX design,
IT support, digital marketing and e-
commerce, project management,
cyber security, and digital analytics.
Contact Sara for more informa-
tion, as help is available to help you
decide what to do for career train-
ing.
Once ready, the person can be-
gin learning remotely from home at
his or her own pace. “Once you
complete your first course,” Sara
says, “print your course certificate
and turn it in to me at the office.”
At that point a W-9 form would be
required: “After I receive the cer-
tificate and a copy of a W-9, I will
create an invoice and turn it in for
payment processing. Processing may
take a few days to a week,” Sara
says. You can opt for check pick-
up, or for the check to be mailed.
The check will be mailed to the ad-
dress listed on the W-9.
After this first time, the process
