Arrest, hearings in fatal wreck case
A Bend woman was ar-
rested this month on multiple
counts of first- and second-
degree manslaughter, and driv-
ing under the influence. The
defendant in the case remains
in custody.
Following a court hearing
earlier this week, the judge in
the case decided to keep the
bail amount at $1 million. An-
other pre-trial conference in
the case is tentatively scheduled
for next week in Jefferson
County Circuit Court.
The arrest and charges
came after the investigation
of a motor vehicle wreck in
November that took the lives
of three people, including two
teena g ers, from War m
Springs.
Saralee
Spino-
McCor mack, 29, and her 13-
year-old nephew Jesiah Johnson,
passed away from injuries at the
scene of the wreck, November
16. Jessica Johnson, 15, Ms.
Spino-McCormach’s niece, died
a few days later from injuries.
The wreck happened in the
evening during dense fog. De-
spite the hazardous conditions,
Audry Cooper McHugh, 29, of
Bend, attempted to pass several
vehicles, according to police and
Jefferson County District
Attorney’s office investigation in-
dicates .
McHugh’s vehicle then col-
lided head-on with the westbound
vehicle driven by Ms. Spino-
McCormack, killing her nephew
Jesiah, and critically injuring her
niece, Jessica, who passed away
at the hospital a short time later.
Following an extensive and
thorough motor vehicle acci-
dent reconstruction investiga-
tion, McHugh was arrested
this month on three counts of
first-degree manslaughter,
three counts of second-de-
gree manslaughter, and one
count of driving under the in-
fluence. At the time of the
wreck, McHugh was appar-
ently traveling at a speed of
85 miles and hour while un-
der the influence of alcohol
and THC, according to the in-
vestigation.
A conviction of first-de-
gree manslaughter in Oregon,
like aggravated vehicular man-
slaughter, is a Class A felony,
and carries of prison sentence
of up to 20 years.
Search is continuing for missing W.S. man
As of earlier this week, the
Warm Springs Police Depart-
ment was planning to continue
the search for Lee Johnson, 67,
who was last seen in early
March. The search will focus in
the upper Seekseequa area on the
reservation, where the initial res-
cue response, using search dogs,
indicated the possible location.
Mr. Johnson was last seen
leaving his home on Saturday,
March 4. He was seen leaving
his home on Jackson Trail
Road, headed to the Indian
Park area for wood-cutting. He
was reported missing a short
time later, after he did not re-
turn home that evening.
