Warm Springs youth will re-
ceive shoes and socks at a Sat-
urday, May 21 event, to be held
at the Children’s Protective Ser-
vices playground and adjoining
field, 1148 War m Springs
Street.
The shoe and sock give-
away, hosted by Big Lake
Youth Camp and Samaritan’s
Feet, will be from 5:30 to 9
p.m., with volunteer check-in
starting at 3 p.m. Samaritans

The plan is to give away 396

Lengthy sentence for assault, coercion
An Oklahoma man was sen-
tenced to more than six years in
prison last week after a Jefferson
County jury earlier found him guilty
of assault and coercion in the beat-
ing and biting of a Warm Springs
woman last year.
The jury in April found Alfred
Kaulaity, 46, from Midwest City,
Oklahoma, of fourth-degree felony
assault and coercion, said Steve
Leriche, District Attorney.

Circuit Court Judge Wade Whit-
ing imposed a sentence of 78
months in prison, the maximum
allowed under the law.
Mr. Leriche said that Kaulaity
had seven previous convictions for
domestic violence crimes.
The victim, a tribal member
from Warm Springs, testified about
being brutally beaten and bitten by
Kaulaity as he tormented her over
the course of several hours, as he
drove around in a van.
The woman “eventually was
able to bolt from the van and run”
to a stranger’s home, Mr. Leriche
said. The resident, Lyle Clark,
“took the woman into his home,
called police and waited with her
until police arrived.” Madras and
Warm Springs police detectives in-
vestigated other acts of domestic vio-
lence involving Kaulaity, and he also
will be facing federal charges.
