The Siletz conceived the project years ago, and are still awaiting federal ap- proval. The Siletz are facings op- position from the Confed- erated Tribes of Grand Ronde, who years ago also opposed the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Bridge of the Gods Gorge casino prjoect. The Siletz’ North Salem casino is expected to gener- ate $185.4 million in gross revenue and bring 1,500 full time jobs in its first year of operation, and would be built on tribally owned prop- erty along interstate exit 258 to Portland. Siletz tribes chairwoman Delores Pigsley commented: “This will be Oregon’s first gaming facility to share rev- enue with eight other feder- ally recognized tribes, the state of Oregon and local governments. “The tribe is currently seeking a ‘two-part determi- nation’ from the Secretary of the Interior that the project is in the best inter- est of the tribe and not det- rimental to the surrounding community.” The Bureau of Indian Af- fairs is currently reviewing the Siletz Tribes’ application, sub- mitted in the summer of 2020.
