Spilyay Tymoo Coyote News, est. 1976 Community update The Indian Health Service for the Warm Springs tribes updated the Covid-19 data for Tuesday of this week, September 7: On that date there were 11 ac- tive covid cases on the reservation, receiving daily monitoring. There were three community members hospitalized with the disease, no one on a ventilator. Total number of primary vacci- nations in the community was at 2,911. Total number of second shots was at 2,435; and 30 individu- als had received the third, or booster shot. The booster at this time is available to vulnerable mem- bers of the community, such as those at senior assisted living. At the Warm Springs Academy the first- through eighth-graders started on Tuesday. Half of the kindergarteners started this Wednesday, and the rest return this Thursday. At the high school, the freshman returned on Tues- day, and the tenth- through twelfth graders returned this Wednesday. Masks are required to start the school year in the effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and to keep every- one safe. No one is allowed in a school district building D.McMechan/Spilyay without wearing a mask. School hours at the War m Springs Academy are 8:45 a.m. to 3:55 p.m., except for the Late Start Mondays, when school begins at 10:15 a.m. with doors opening at 9:55. At Madras High School and Bridges High School, the school day is from 8 a.m. to 3:05 p.m., except for late start Mondays when school starts at 9:30. Roadway progress The construction company working on the Highway 26 safety corridor project this week is beginning more paving. This work will be between mile- posts 103 and 111. Warm Springs Construction crew installs storm drainage along Highway 3 project. The work will be at night, from the hours of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.: Drivers should anticipate up to 20- minute delays, as one lane of the highway will be closed, controlled by flaggers and pilot cars. During the daytime, the con- tractor will perform excavation and earthwork activities. New curb and drainage pipes will also be installed along the shoulder of the highway. Warm Springs Construc- tion also continues their safety project along Highway 3. Fea- tures here include the pedes- trian path along the highway, and rock-fall work. Tribal Council initiates 2022 budget process The Tribal Council this month is hearing the budget presentations of the enterprises, branches and departments of the organization. The district and General Coun- cil meetings will then happen in October.
