Regional Finals ready to buck
Fair & Rodeo Queen
At the Western States
Regional Finals, riders will be
battling for a chance to com-
pete this fall at the National
Finals in Las Vegas.
The Western regional fi-
nals are coming up Saturday
and Sunday, August 25-26 at
the Jefferson County Fair-
grounds Corwin Arena.

Finals will be:
Jenna Johnson, ladies
breakaway roping.
Joel Scott III, saddle
bronc.
Mike Holyan, calf rop-
ing.
Clinton Bruised Head,
steer wrestling.
JB Bruised Head, junior
breakaway.

breakaway.
The Western States Re-
gional Finals is sponsored by
Johnson Promotions and
family.
There will be a barbecue
and live band, starting at 11
a.m. each day. Featured ro-
deo events, with many riders
competing for the Finals:
Bareback, bull riding, jun-
ior bull riding, saddle bronc,
steer wrestling, ladies
breakaway, senior and junior
breakaway roping, barrel rac-
ing, junior barrel racing, team
roping, and senior team rop-

Wild Horse Race Memorial at Simnasho
Mary Olney opens the 2018 Wheeler County Fair and Rodeo.
Mary Olney made some local history
earlier this month, as the Wheeler County
Fair and Rodeo Queen. She is the first
young lady from Warm Springs to achieve
this honor. Mary will be a senior this
year at Madras High School, where she
is active with the FFA and 4-H, and
plays softball, all while excelling in scho-
lastics.

Tohet Wild Horse Race Me-
morial is coming up in Sep-
tember at the Simnasho ro-
deo grounds.
There will be a 16.2 mile
endurance race: $100 entry
fee and $600 added—Open
to all ages. More events:
Wild Horse Race ($150
per team). Two-plus-one
Wild Horse Race (woman
shanks - $120 per team).
Ranch bronc riding.
Breakaway roping. Junior
Wild Colt Race (ages 7-12).
Senior Wild Colt Race (13-
17 years).
Mini buckers (8 and un-
der), junior broncs (9-11
years) and senior broncs (12-
14).
Extra kid events: AUJ’s
junior barrels for 10-and-
under. Blade’s Wild Sheep
Race, 6 and under.
Rubyanna’s Stick Horse
Race, 5 and under.
There is 100 percent pay-
out to contestants. The ac-
tion will be September 30 at
Simnasho. President is
Jimmy Tohet Jr.; secretary,
Gladys Graybael; and Angela
Tohet, treasurer.

The Senior Wellness
Center is having Senior
lunch at noon. On the menu:
beef spaghetti, salad and
canned fruit. Seniors 60 and
older eat for free, 59 and un-
der are $5 and youth under
13 are $3 at the Senior
Wellness Center.
Friday, August 17
Here are some fitness
activities happening today:
Senior Fitness class is at 10
at the Senior Center. PiYo
Class is at 12:10 in Pod A at
the clinic, and Functional Fit-
ness class is at 12:10 in the
Aerobics room.
After senior fitness class
today, participants can eat a
meal. Today they are having
apricot chicken with cheese
and bacon and fresh fruit.
Saturday, August 18
The Culver Crawdad Fes-
tival will be from 11 a.m. to 5
p.m. at Culver city Park. There
is a parade at 10 a.m. People
who want to enter the pie
baking contest or BBQ rib
cook off can do so at Culver
city Hall.
The Warm Springs Out-
door Market is open today
from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on
campus by Kalama’s Fry
Bread.
The Madras Saturday
Market is open from 9 a.m.
to 2 p.m. at Sahalee Park.
8/18 The Museum at
Warm Springs 23rd Annual
Huckleberry Harvest Dinner
is August 18 at Kahneeta
Resort. The fundraiser in-
cludes a gourmet dinner, si-
lent auction and art demon-

Bank is located at the Pres-
byterian Church. They are
open from 11:30-1:30 today.
All food banks and pantries
do take donations of non-
perishable food or cash
There is a Fusion Fitness
class every Monday and
Wednesday morning at 6 at
the community center Aero-
bics room. The class is suit-
able for all fitness levels.
Monday, August 20
It’s late start at the Warm
Springs Academy. School
will start at 9:45 a.m. This is
for grades one through
eight. Kindergarten will start
on Tuesday.
