Tribes to co-host Eagle Watch 2018
The Confederated Tribes
will again co-host Eagle
Watch, a tradition that began
in 1996.
The tribes, Portland Gen-
eral Electric and Oregon
Parks and Recreation host
the event, coming up the
weekend of February 24-25
at the Round Butte Over-
look Park.
A highlight each year at
Eagle Watch is the Native
dance and drum demonstra-
tions by the Quartz Creek
Drummers and Dancers,
and the Wasco Dancers.
Eagle Watch is a chance
to learn about birds of prey.
The Warm Springs
Health and Wellness
Center Employee Ap-
preciation Committee
is having a food drive
to benefit the Warm
Springs Food Bank at
the Presbyterian
Church. The commu-
nity is asked to donate
non-perishable food
items. There are dona-
tion boxes placed in
each pod at the clinic.
They are taking dona-
tions until March 30.
The Thirty-Fifth An-
nual Traditional Pow-
wow at Heritage
High School in
Vancouver, Washing-
ton is coming up Sat-
urday, March 3. Grand
entries are at 1 and 6,
with a hand-drum con-
test during the dinner
break.
This is a fun, free and fam-
ily weekend, when visitors
can see up close a golden
eagle and a great horned owl.
Visitors can view wild
golden and bald eagles, as
well as other birds of prey
that live at Lake Billy Chi-
nook.
Birds of prey experts will
be on hand; so visitors can
find out what research is
going on in the state, and
learn how to make a back-
yard more inviting to the
birds.
There will be the Central
Oregon Eagle Watch art con-
test winners, and kids will
learn how to build a blue-
bird house or bird feeder.
Lunch is provided by
PGE and Earth2O. Any
donations support the Ma-
dras High School JROTC
program.
Indian Fry Bread will be
available for sale, plus some
great prizes, a silent auction
and souvenirs, all proceeds
going directly to the Oregon
Eagle Foundation.
JR Beaver, Smokey Bear
and Larry the Light Bulb will
be there on Saturday. Con-
