Memorial races this month at Wasco Fair
The Vernon and Nellie
Spino Three-Quarter Me-
morial Race is coming up
this month at the Wasco
County Fair and Rodeo.
The race prize is $1,000
winner take all, with other
prizes to be announced. The
race is Saturday night, Au-
gust 26.
The Vernon Ray Spino
Memorial Kids Match Race
is Friday night, August 25.
This is half track race, lim-
ited to six riders ages 8-12
years. Call-ins open August
7. First place, $100; second,
$75; and third, $50; other
prizes to be announced.

Golf fundraiser helps Native sports film
The Forgotten Warriors
Fundraising Golf Tourna-
ment is this Friday and Sat-
urday, August 4-5 at Chinook
Winds Casino Resort in Lin-
coln City.
The event will help raise
money for a documentary
film on the importance of
sports programs in Native
American communities.
The film, Forgotten War-
riors, A Decade of Dominance,
portrays the 1971-1981 San
Pasqual Valley High School
football teams, a reservation
school that won several state
championships in California.
The documentary focuses
on inspiring Native youth,
encouraging sports programs
and understanding the link to
positive physical and mental
health.
