This will help with Ven- tures’ goal of developing a Center For Excellence in Fire Fighting on the reservation. The work at Kah-Nee-Ta will involve remodeling the lower floor area, and creat- ing conference and class- rooms, and a UAS training simulator. There is a chance the ground-breaking for this work could happen in the next two to three weeks, said Aurolyn Stwyer, Ventures business and marketing direc- tor. Funding is coming through a state grant pro- gram. Funding for tribes to prosecute non-Indians For the first time since the Violence Against Women Act became law in 2013, tribes will be able to obtain federal funds to help them exercise jurisdiction over non-Indians. The landmark law recog- nizes the “inherent” author- ity of tribes to arrest, pros- ecute and sentence certain non-Indian offenders for some domestic violence crimes. But Congress never Oregon Gov. Kate Brown signed a proclamation mak- ing the week of May 14-21, American In- dian Week. The proclamation reads in part: Our state’s efforts to build a healthy en- vironment, strong economy and thriv- ing communities will be strengthened by consulting with an tapping into the his- torical knowledge and traditional ex- pertise of the First Oregonians. funded a program that was designed to help tribes strengthen their justice sys- tems. That’s finally changing now that Congress included some money in a fiscal year 2016 appropriations measure. The Department of Justice is now accepting applications for the new Grants to Tribal Govern- ments to Exercise Special Domestic Violence Criminal Jurisdiction Program. The lack of federal fund- ing hasn’t stopped tribes from writing new laws, improving their courts and making other changes that enable them to comply with Violence Against Women Act. The law requires tribes to protect the constitutional rights of all defendants if they choose to participate in the special domestic violence criminal jurisdiction program. 2015 Nissan Versa Sedan- 32,948 miles - 2014 Nissan Altima - 35,167 miles - $13,995 #69457W #16757A $17,995 2012 Chevrolet Traverse SUV - 103,324 miles - 2010 Chevrolet Malibu - 70,714 miles - $18,995 #37075A $11,995 #94875X 2007 Buick LaCrosse - 119,516 miles - 2007 Chrysler Sedan - 85,666 miles - $7,995 $12,995 #95300A #8420A 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt Sedan 99,076 miles - 2007 Pontiac Coupe- 78,629 miles - $7,995 #99247A 2006 Dodge Ram - 130,547 miles - $8,995 #10204A 2006 Toyota Tacoma - 100,120 miles - $23,995 $16,995 #04957C #P1341A 2004 Ford Freestar Minivan - 99,821 miles - 1994 Ford Econoline - 182,463 miles - $6,995 $12,995 #P5043A #C0084
