Teams in the War m Springs Cougars Classic tour- ney will play at the Warm Springs Youth Center, and the Warm Springs Commu- nity Center. The tournament will be in two divisions, six teams per division. For the sixth- through eighth-grade co-ed teams; and for the high school co-ed teams, the awards include: Ten championship jack- ets; 10 runner-up crews; third and fourth place final- ist t-shirts. The 14.5-mile marathon Native youth art camp The Journey’s In Cre- ativity art camp is a free pre-college artist in resi- dence camp at the Or- egon College of Arts and Crafts in Portland. It is specifically de- signed for Native Ameri- can youth ages 15-19. This year’s camp dates are August 5-18, and the theme this year is Shat- tering Stereotypes: The Confluence of Indigenous Art & Glass. Students will be explor- ing, learning about and making contemporary art in glass. The deadline to apply is May 1. Twelve students will be accepted. Test drive for MHS seniors Thomas Sales and Service, Ford and the Madras High School Senior Class Parent Group of 2016 invite you to Drive for Your School, this Thursday, April 14. Stop by the high school between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. for a test drive. The Senior Class will earn $20 for each test drive. They’re raising money for the senior class trip to Disneyland. Little Miss Warm Springs meetings are on Wednesdays from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Com- munity Center. All interested girls and parents are welcome. They toured four Zone 6 in-lieu and treaty fishing ac- cess sites, the visit highlight- ing the tribal housing crisis at the river. On hand were U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer and Sen. Jeff Merkley. You have the option of attending one, or both days: April 28 or May 1. This camp is open to all players in grades second through eighth. This is a great way for players to tune up for the upcoming season, and learn new baseball funda- mentals in a safe and fun environment. Players who attend will participate in many of the same detail ori- ented drills used by the Madras High School baseball program. The camps are $20 each; or $30 for both days. The loss of tribal villages and homes has been a con- tentious issue for decades. The tribes continue to in- sist that as long as the dams exist, the federal government has a continuing obligation to mitigate the impacts caused by the dams. The tribes and CRITFC meanwhile are working to develop a plan as to how the situation could be remedied.
