Counseling events for Recovery Month by Sarah Wolfe Warm Springs Prevention N ational Recovery Month is a national observance held every September to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services. Recovery Month cel- ebrates the gains made by those in recovery. Warm Springs Community Counseling celebrated Recov- ery with an early Recovery Powwow on July 21. Ten Guiding Butterflies/ Mighty Warriors, and many other Warm Springs commu- nity members and employees attended the Spirit of Giving Conference in Portland. Keynote speakers included Eduardo Duran and Don Coyhis, both recognized na- tionally in Indian Country. Tribal Councilman Raymond Tsumpti Sr. spoke on the Tribal Leaders Panel. At closing Tribal Council Chairman Eugene Greene Jr. shared his testimony. Don Coyhis commended Warm Springs tribal leaders for sober leadership. The Sacred Hoop was car- ried around the War m Springs k-8 School by four Warm Springs Women in Re- covery. Guy Wallulatum and Dallas Winishut Jr. shared songs. Quartz Creek shared both an honor and round dance. During this event, power- ful testimonies of recovery and healing were shared by guests Carlos and Candida. There was also a sobriety countdown and then the event closed with a talking circle. We were happy to have Brothers and Sisters in recov- ery join us from Klamath Falls and NARA. The Guiding Butterflies and Mighty Warriors Adult Class will begin again this Thursday, Oct. 1, and will meet Thursdays from 1-3 p.m. at the Counseling Cen- ter. There is a trip planned for October 24 to the 2015 Hillcrest YCF Powwow and the NARA Boo Bash. We encourage new members to join this Adult Class; however participants must attend class to participate in trips. We look forward to future events and will continue to assist anyone considering re- covery. Please know that you are not alone and there is hope and there is help.
