The Eighth Annual
MAC Dash Sprint
Triathlon is set for Satur-
day, September 12.
The Madras Aquatic
Center triathlon consists
of a 500-yard swim, a 12-
mile bike ride, and 3-mile
run. You can participate as
an individual or team.
There is a new team
challenge this year: The
first organization, team
or business team to claim
the traveling trophy gets
bragging rights for one
year.

BIA Warm Springs Agency
Superintendent John Halliday
met with Tribal Council on
Monday, followed by an up-
date from Charles Jackson,
director of the Warm Springs
Office of the Special Trustee.
Mr. Halliday presented in-
formation and a timeline re-
garding the federal budgeting
process. The process is impor-
tant for the Confederated
Tribes, as various tribal
branches—Natural Re-
sources and Social Services,
for instance—utilize signifi-
cant federal funding.
An item to keep in mind,
Halliday said, is the proposed
Warm Springs Justice Center,
which would include a new
jail, juvenile detention facil-
ity, and courtrooms and of-
fices.
Special Trustee update
Charles Jackson reported
on a new initiative regarding
the Native American probate
process.
He presented the new pro-
bate brochures that are now
available at his office, located
in the administration building.
The brochures are in an
easier to read format, Jack-
son reported.
One of the brochures is
titled, “Do You Know Who
Will Inherit Your Land? ~
Protecting those that matter
most.” The pamphlet an-
swers the common questions
about the American Indian
Probate Reform Act.
