IHS, Nike continue partnership The Indian Health Service recently signed an agreement with Nike USA Inc., to col- laborate on the promotion of healthy lifestyle choices for American Indians. The goal is to use the strengths and ex- pertise of both organizations to improve and enhance the health and fitness of Ameri- can Indians and Alaska Na- tives across the nation. American Indian and Alaska Native people suffer health problems at rates that are significantly higher than the general U.S. population. One focus area for this col- laboration will be on support- ing and promoting physical activity programs among Na- tive youth before, during, and after the school day. The recent agreement con- tinues a partnership between the IHS and Nike that started over 10 years ago, when they initially began to identify op- portunities to work together to inform and educate Na- tive communities about healthy lifestyles and choices. Bill to block federal labor law at tribal businesses The effort to shield tribal casinos from federal labor law is taking another step for- ward this week. An appropriations bill due for a markup this week bars the National Labor Relations Board from asserting jurisdic- tion in Indian Country. The rider is the work of Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla- homa), a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation and one of only two members of a fed- erally-recognized tribe in Con- gress. Cole’s tribe recently pre- vailed in an unfair labor prac- tices complaint in which the NLRB declined to assert ju- risdiction over the WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okahoma. He didn’t mention the development when he re- leased his funding bill, in- stead describing his rider as an attempt to “rein in the excessive overreach” of that federal agency. But the language in Sec- tion 409 is quite clear. It pro- hibits the NLRB from using any federal funds to enforce the National Labor Relations Act “against any Indian tribe, including any enterprise or institution owned and oper- ated by an Indian tribe and located on its Indian lands.” “This bill reflects the val- ues and priorities of the American taxpayer, setting us June 24, 2015 on a path that will reduce the deficit while funding pro- grams that make meaningful differences in the lives of Americans,” Cole, who serves as chairman of the House Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agen- cies, said in a press release. 2013 Kia Optima EX Sedan - 35,415 miles $20,995 #17028B 2005 Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab - 83,577 miles $21,995 #C0078 2009 BMW X3 Sport Utility - 61,834 miles 2014 Buick Verano Convenience - 24,642 miles $22,995 $18,995 #15376W #P5013 2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS - 13,805 miles 2013 Honda CR- V EX-L - 34,095 miles $16,995 $26,995 #96665A #85751A 2012 Ford Flex Ltd Sport Utility - 28,772 miles 2013 Hyundai Elantra - 24,777 miles $32,995 $17,995 #48378A #48709A 2013 Ford Focus St Hatchback - 18,249 miles 1997 Ford F250 Super Cab - 106,019 miles $22,995 $8,995 #66948A #P4042A 2008 Buick LaCrosse Super Sedan - 81,123 miles 2014 Chevrolet Captiva Sport LTZ - 27,678 miles $13,995 $22,995 #67705A #P4041
